News from the all new Anemos Luxury Grand Resort in Georgioupolis near Chania, Greece tells us ISS cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Oleg Skripochka have as their last mission objective rehabilitation on Crete, and an intensive program of physical recuperation.

Back in July I covered a story for Sputnik about the Russian space agency Roscosmos sending the famous cosmonaut Malenchenko to Crete in a new experiment for re-acclamation after months in space. Apparently the program of recuperation was successful, for we’ve received news two more cosmonauts are on Crete.

News from the all new Anemos Luxury Grand Resort (image below) in Georgioupolis near Chania tells us ISS cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Oleg Skripochka have as their last mission objective rehabilitation on Crete, and an intensive program of physical recuperation. The cosmonauts, who just returned from the ISS after 172 days in space, will follow a similar regime to that of fellow cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko.

The program on Crete during the previous experiments began at Anemos Grand Resort’s Aegeo Spa, where physical aspects of the program helped Malenchenko begin acclimating to Earth again, and not simply gravity effects. The larger scope of the program also combined lifestyle and cultural elements, and Crete specific variables in order to boost the cosmonaut’s recover. The island, world renowned for its healthy lifestyle and climate, is also famous for its unique cultural-societal uniqueness. The legendary “filoxenia”, or love of strangers also plays a role in this therapy.

This new recuperating plan was first envisioned by veteran Roscomos physician, Mikhail Potapov, who along with  Greek entrepreneur and Russia correspondent, Thanassis Avgerinos organized the initial visit by cosmonaut Fedor Yurchihin. What ensued was a more concrete rehabilitation program for Russian cosmonauts. Then, with the assistance of Minas Liapakis and his agency Eyewide Digital Marketing, Anemos and all of Crete welcomed these space adventurers.

Anemos Luxury Grand Resort, for those unfamiliar, is a brand new 5-star luxury hotel in Georgioupolis of Chania in the north-western part of Crete. It is only 36 km away from the city of Chania and 19 km away from the city of Rethymnon. According to the news, the two cosmonauts will spend some days at Anemos, and then take part in a ceremonial unveiling of a statue of legendary Russian cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin in Heraklion. Other luxury resorts, functions, and immersive experiences in nearby villages are also planned.
