Safety is a concern for all business travelers, but the risk is higher for women and those in the LGBTQ community

Ninety-five percent of LGBTQ travelers say they have hidden their sexual orientation while on a business trip.

According to new research commissioned by SAP Concur, the world’s leading brand for travel, expense and invoice management solutions:

  • More than 77 percent [of women business travelers] say they have experienced some sort of harassment or mistreatment while traveling. Forty-two percent say they have been asked if they’re traveling with their husband.
  • Ninety-five percent of LGBTQ travelers say they have hidden their sexual orientation while on a business trip. The most cited reason? To protect their safety. Eighty-five percent have changed their travel arrangements as a result, compared to just 53 percent of their non-LGBTQ colleagues.

TripIt’s latest traveler tools include features designed specifically to address travel concerns for women and those in the LGBQT community. These include

  • Neighborhood Safety shows safety scores (from 1 to 100) for the neighborhoods you’re visiting, covering topics that range from physical harm to political freedoms and include Women’s Safety and LGBTQ.
  • Plus, TripIt now shows separate day and night safety ratings to reflect how safety changes with the time of day.
  • International Travel Tools provides country-specific travel information for 180 countries. This includes logistics such as embassy information, currency conversions, socket and plug requirements, required vaccinations, tipping advice and more.
