Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority plans further promotions to attract more visitors from the Kingdom

JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA – According to the latest statistics released from the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), visitors to Mauritius from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia increased 49% between the months of January and July 2019 compared to the same period in 2018. A total of 13,704 Saudi visitors were recorded over the period, a sharp rise from the 9,190 individuals recorded during the same period in 2018, increasing Saudi Arabia’s ranking from 12th to 10th most important international market for inbound travellers to Mauritius.

The increase is reflective of MTPA’s ongoing promotional and marketing activities in the Kingdom to raise the awareness of Mauritius as an ideal destination for Saudi honeymooners and families seeking a paradise destination that is welcoming and friendly, offers numerous family attractions, luxury experiences, as well as exceptional Halal dining options, water activities and year-round adventures.

Mr. Arvind Bundhun, Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority highlighted that: “Saudia Arabia is a key strategic market for Mauritius, one which we will continue to proactively engage with, so that more Saudis can experience and enjoy all that our island nation has to offer.”

Bundhun added: “Saudia Airlines has been instrumental in their contribution towards the seamless link of passengers between our two countries. Through such strategic partnerships, and the ongoing activities of our Saudi representative office, we are confident that the upward trend in visitor numbers from the Kingdom will continue in the interim.”

Saudi-based travel agents have reported that the increase in demand for Mauritius this year has been significant, with many highlighting Mauritius as a top destination for this summer and Eid holidays. Visitor statistics reflect this, with the latest figures for the first two weeks of August 2019 showing a further increase of 94% compared to the same period in August 2018.
Since opening its representative office in Saudi Arabia in December 2018 with AVIAREPS, the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority continues to proactively conduct numerous activities to raise the awareness and profile of the destination including participation in leading Saudi travel exhibitions, roadshows and gala events, billboard advertising, media and travel agent hosting, digital advertising campaigns, social media campaigns, Arabic website launch, as well as ongoing public relations and sales training of Saudi travel agents.

Travel to Mauritius is both convenient and seamless with Saudi nationals not requiring a visa to visit Mauritius, and with direct flights with Saudia Airlines.
