SEA introduces a points-based airport licence at its airports

After the end of the trial phase, it will come into force from April 2022 on both airports.

SEA, the manager of Milan Linate and Milan Malpensa airports, in a perspective of continuous improvement of airport safety, has introduced the Points-Based Airport Licence in its airports, thanks to the cooperation with Enac. An innovative system that is unique at both national and European level.

The points-based airport licence is based on the same logic as the driving licence, regulated by the Highway Code by assigning a score not only to the individual driver but also to the companies for which the airport employees work (Operator Safety Levels Chart).

In the event of an infringement, the airport operator will take action in accordance with the directives set out in the Airport Regulations, deducting points from both the driver's licence and from the company he/she belongs to, in proportion to the seriousness of the infringement. Once the points have been used up or, in the most serious cases, immediately, the licence will be suspended in agreement with the ENAC Airport Directorates. Only after specific training and assessment will the airport employee have his/her licence reinstated. Conversely, in the absence of infringements, the points on the licence will increase.

The Points-Based Licence was introduced after an overall 18-month trial period at the two airports, which demonstrated its effectiveness in increasing operators' awareness of safety issues, raising awareness that the behaviours indicated in the regulations are a fundamental key to preventing the risks potentially present in airport activities.
