September tHPI: Berlin sees the highest month-on-month increase in hotel prices

Berlin sees the sharpest increase in hotel prices this month on the tHPI, with its average rate for a standard double room reaching 129 euros per night, an increase of 42% from August.

 

DUSSELDORF, GERMANY – Most of the European capitals witness an increase in the hotel prices in September 2019, with Berlin recording the sharpest increase of 42% compared to last month. Madrid follows with a registered increase of 40% in hotel prices for the first month of Autumn among the cities listed on the trivago Hotel Price Index (tHPI), reported by global hotel metasearch trivago.com 

Berlin sees the sharpest increase in hotel prices this month on the tHPI, with its average rate for a standard double room reaching 129 euros per night, an increase of 42% from August. Madrid follows closely with a 40% increase compared to the previous month, with its average hotel price now at 111 euros per night. Average hotel prices in Paris rise as well, increasing by 39% this month, compared to last, to reach 173 euros for a standard double room per night. Rome and Brussels report month-on-month increase of 26% and 25% respectively, which translate into 115 euros in Rome and 113 euros in Brussels for a standard double room. On the contrary, the city with the highest month-on-month hotel price decrease reported on the tHPI in September is Hong Kong, where travelers will now pay 93 euros on average for an overnight stay in a standard double room, an 18% decrease this month, as compared to last. Seoul follows with a 12% decrease compared to last month, which translates into €94 for an overnight stay.

Year-on-year comparison in hotel prices in Europe
Reykjavik reports the sharpest year-on-year hotel price decrease this month where people will have to pay €131 overnight for a standard double room, a 23% decrease compared to September 2018. Lisbon follows with a 12% year-on-year decrease, which translates into 107 euros for a standard double room per night. Vienna holds the third place with a decrease of 7% compared to September last year wherein an average hotel rate now stands at 116 euros for an overnight hotel stay. At the other end of the spectrum lie Brussels and Istanbul, the cities with the sharpest increase in hotel prices on a year-on-year comparison. Travelers visiting the Belgian capital will pay 113 euros for a standard double room for an overnight stay, an increase of 16% compared to last year. Istanbul reports an increase of 13% compared to September 2018, which translates into 72 euros per night. Following closely, Barcelona registers an increase of 12% compared to the same month of last year, which translates into 148 euros per night.
