Seven survival essentials for every trip to the woods you can’t afford to skip

To make sure that your adventurous outing bears only happy and exciting memories, carry a survival knife! Bookmark this post as a reminder of why survival essentials are crucial in the woods.

When travelling to the woods, safety comes first!

You will be stepping in unknown territory so you must be prepared for the dangers. Safety and survival should never be taken for granted, which brings us to this list of camping essentials. Read on to have a safe and fabulous trip.

1. Knife
The first one on this list is a knife because surviving in the woods without a sharp-edged blade can be too challenging.

A knife can be efficiently put to several uses. From hunting and deboning to meal preparation and survival, a knife from trusted places like Perkin Knives can help you enjoy your stay in the woods to the fullest.

Make sure that you carry the right knife such as a bowie, hunting or camping knife as they can be used in place of other tools as well.

2. First-aid kit
Never leave your home for a trip to the forest without carrying a first aid kit.

The kit that you prepare for such a trip should be adequately equipped with bandages, alcohol cleaning wipes, gauze, ointments and doctor tape to stop the infection in case of an accident.

3. Flashlight
When talking about lighting, you have several options at your disposal.

While a flashlight is handy in case of emergency or when travelling in the woods at night, you can take headlight and footlights as well. These two variants will free up your hands for smooth completion of other tasks.

Also, if you carry a battery LED lantern for the campsite, you won't have to worry about sleeping in the dark.

4. Reusable utensils
Instead of opting for disposal utensils, make space for reusable ones in your backpack, and you'll surely thank us later.

With the lack of garbage bins and disposal areas in the forest, you will have to carry your trash with you for safe disposal. And if you bring along one-time use utensils, you will have several bags of garbage at your hands. To avoid such a situation, carry reusable cookware and utensils for ease in cooking and eating.

5. Solar shower bag and hygiene products
Staying in the woods is no excuse for giving up on your hygiene. Since you already lack proper sanitation, you will develop several health issues if you let go of the cleanliness.

That said, make sure that you carry your hygiene products in small packages such as soap, toothpaste, shampoo, wet wipes and more. Also, for ease in showering, bring along a solar camp shower bag which will help you enjoy a hot shower even in cold climates.

6. Extra clothing
Carry a few extra t-shirts, innerwear and socks to make sure that you stay dry all the time.

If you are travelling during the rainy season, then you must put a raincoat in the backpack as well. The goal here is to stay dry and get rid of the wetness. Staying wet for longer will develop blisters on your body and even make it produce more heat. You will be highly fatigued and in pain, so always carry extra clothing.

7. Tent and other sleeping essentials
If you are carrying a tent, then a sleeping bag or mattress along with it will do the job. But, if not, then you'll need more stuff to survive.

A heavy-duty tarp, sturdy ropes and sleeping bags are recommended for your makeshift tent so you get to sleep peacefully.
