Siesta partners with Winding Tree

Travel and accommodation ecosystem Siesta Cloud partners with non-profit blockchain project, Winding Tree to decentralise and open up the travel industry to greater competition.

PRAGUE – Siesta Cloud has announced a partnership with blockchain travel ecosystem Winding Tree with the aim of decentralising travel infrastructure for suppliers of services aimed at tourists. By using Blockchain technology, a new layer of open-source infrastructure is created that enables smaller service providers to record their businesses on an immutable ledger.

This partnership aims to harness the power of blockchain to disrupt the tourism industry by creating more varied and specialised services, in contrast to today’s highly centralised internet platforms. The Winding Tree blockchain solution adds value beyond tracking accommodation to include other interests and preferences from their guests.

Mikolas Belec, CEO Siesta Cloud said: "The current state of online tourism is highly dependent on search algorithms that focus on who will pay a higher fee. There is little scope for attracting guests based on their individual interests, culture or character. In line with our DNA Application strategy, Siesta’s partnership with Winding Tree aims to support greater competition, a variety of services and accountability."

The use of blockchain aims to eliminate the role of online travel agencies (OTA), the fastest-growing distribution channel in the travel industry. OTAs are usually the biggest cost in this supply chain, with commission fees of up to 25%. Siesta Cloud and Winding Tree envisage an increase in new DNA applications, enabling simple smart searching, and offer bookings over blockchain travel data. These applications will play a key role in the adoption of blockchain by consumers who want a better User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) when planning their travels.
