Six useful hacks that you must know if you love camping

Camping is one of the best ways to unwind and get away from the stresses of life. It connects you with nature and makes it easy to bond with loved ones.

Camping is great for connecting with nature and your loved ones. It gives you the chance to bond away from your regular environment. However, it presents a unique set of challenges. Simple activities like preparing vegetables and creating a fire become more complicated when done outdoors. Here are a few useful hacks for camping enthusiasts.

1. Portable solar panels
Everyone who enjoys being outdoors will understand the need for camping gadgets. They promote safety, comfort, and convenience. It would be a shame to let dead batteries ruin your experience.

Solar panels are a great way to take care of this problem. The best portable solar panels are lightweight and flexible. They are easy to set up and transport, making them great for camping. Since they take advantage of solar energy, they are kind to the environment. Some research will help you determine the most appropriate options for your needs.  Even though camping is all about being one with nature, you don’t want to be stuck with a dead battery on your laptop or cellphone. And if you want to bring back some of that eco-friendliness, you could contact a local solar company and have solar panels installed at your home.

2. Prepare food in advance
Prep your food before heading out. That way, cooking can be much easier. Chop up vegetables, break eggs, make dough for your pancakes, prepare ingredients, pack it in good zip locks, and label everything appropriately.

Preparing your food in advance will give you a head start. If you have food items for your cool box, freeze them before packing for the trip. Freezing as much as possible will extend the lifespan of your food. If you need something that you can’t freeze, chill it before packing. Note that a fuller cool box will keep your food fresher for longer.

3. Sandpaper on your match holder
Consider using sandpaper in the top part of your match holder for fast lighting. It makes it waterproof as well. Matches are a camping essential, but unfortunately, things often go wrong with them. They can get soggy or wet making it difficult to light a fire. With this hack, your matches will always be ready for striking when needed.

The best sandpaper for this hack is fine-grained. One side should have adhesive where you can stick your matchbox. If it has no adhesive, you will need some glue. The coarse surface of sandpaper is great for striking.

4. Improvise on pillows
Pillows are soft, comfortable, and great when sleeping outdoors. However, they take up a lot of space. If you are trying to pack light, consider stuffing your sleeping bag case with clothes to make a pillow. Even though there are inflatable pillows in the market, no one wants to spend the night rolling on air.

Whether you prefer soft or hard pillows, stuffing clothes into your sleeping bag is a great idea. You can end up with a comfortable and practical pillow that does not require much effort. You no longer need to fill your bag with pillows.

5. Garbage bag for lining your bag
Camping exposes you to weather elements. Any seasoned camper understands that you can never be too careful with Mother Nature. Being dry and comfortable in your tent can be pointless if the contents of your bag are soaking wet. One of the simplest ways to avoid this issue is lining your bag with a garbage bag. The contents will stay dry even when your bag gets wet. Garbage bags don’t take up much space. They are cheap and easy to find. Using one in exchange for your warmth and comfort makes sense.

6. Replace ice packs with gallon jugs
Even though ice is important during your camping trips, it melts quickly and may leave you with an unexpected mess to clean. If you have non-plastic food packages in your cooler, ice may leave them soggy.

Consider freezing gallon jugs instead. When frozen, they are unlikely to crack. With their ability to expand, they can keep your food cool for longer. Once the ice melts, you will be left with cool drinking water. Gallon jugs save on space for packing water. Even though water is essential, it can be very heavy. Therefore, it is wise to avoid packing any that could go to waste.
