Sofitel legend The Grand Amsterdam proud winner of the Virtuoso Culture Award 2021

The award was accepted by a representative from the Accor office in the USA and after a journey across the ocean the award has found its way to The Grand where it will receive a special place.

The past year has been very challenging for the travel industry and despite these circumstances, Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam continued to be dedicated in making exceptional efforts in serving the community through generous and creative contributions.” These were the words of the presenter who hosted the ceremony when announcing the winner.

We cannot be more proud that we have been recognized for these projects, especially our Artists in Residence initiative, by winning the Virtuoso Luminaries, Legends, and Leaders Recognition during the 2021 Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas,” says General Manager Emmy Stoel. We would also like to congratulate our fellow Virtuoso member agencies and partners that were nominated or received a recognition for their innovative projects in the various categories.

Virtuoso Travel Network is a consortium of high end travel agencies that are connected to the world’s best luxury hotels based out of the USA with a truly global reach. “Your efforts to impact others in your local community, by expending knowledge and supporting the art world in such creative ways, are truly outstanding,” says Chairman and CEO of Virtuoso Matthew D. Upchurch. Due to the travel restrictions, the event was held part virtual and part live. The award was accepted by a representative from the Accor office in the USA and after a journey across the ocean the award has found its way to The Grand where it will receive a special place.

One of the cultural projects, that we are especially proud of that stood out, is the Artists in Residence project,” says Virtuoso veteran Kees Hogetoorn from The Grand. “With this project, we support the affected art world which has suffered also because of COVID-19.” Since last summer, The Grand has invited weekly a wide range of artists to stay in the Artists in Residence Suite for free to let their creativity flow freely. This project is scheduled to last one year and will result in a beautiful coffee-table book in which the 52 artists, and their works, will be displayed. The original pieces of art will be exhibited at the hotel and some will be put up for auction raising funds for charities that support the art world. More information on the Artists in Residence project can be found via the Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam website.
