Southwest Airlines to offer new international flights from Ft. Lauderdale, Nashville, and St. Louis

Southwest also published new flight schedules between Mexico City and Houston

DALLAS – Southwest Airlines Co. published an extension of its full flight schedule through Jan. 7, 2018, bringing new service on Saturdays to Cancun from both Nashville (BNA) and St. Louis (STL) beginning Nov. 11, 2017. In addition, the carrier’s offering of international nonstop service operated through Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) also will grow to a total 10 destinations with new daily service between both San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO) and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ) and Southwest’s South Florida gateway. All nonstop service is subject to requisite governmental approvals, as is the carrier’s previously announced service expected to begin Nov 5, 2017, to Providenciales, Turks & Caicos (PLS), with those fares and flight schedule to be announced soon.

Business and civic leaders gathered at Nashville International Airport to celebrate the addition of nonstop international service. “Our position as hometown carrier both here in Nashville and in St. Louis with more than a 100 flights a day this summer from both airports makes this weekly shortcut to Cancun a natural addition for our loyal Customers to hit another popular beach destination,” said Dave Harvey, who oversees International Planning as Southwest Airlines’ Managing Director of Business Development. “At the same time, we’re adding daily service in our established gateway in Fort Lauderdale as part of a larger effort to bring meaningful international service to Customers coast-to-coast who have made us America’s largest carrier.” 1

Southwest also published new flight schedules between Mexico City and Houston, which brings timing improvements beginning July 5, 2017, to the carrier’s three daily roundtrip flights currently offered between the two airports and, beginning Oct. 29, 2017, a fourth flight in each direction on the nonstop route.

Milwaukee (MKE) travelers also gain new, daily nonstop routes between Mitchell International Airport and both Cleveland (CLE) and Nashville beginning Nov. 5, 2017, with fares as low as $49 one-way.

(These fares are offered at Southwest.com today through 11:59 p.m. on May 22, 2017, in the time zone of the departing city, for travel Sundays through Thursdays Nov. 5, 2017 through Jan. 7, 2018, with certain blackout dates and other terms & conditions fully disclosed below.)

The carrier’s full schedule of service through Jan. 7, 2018, includes the return of many popular winter-season routes and is available now for booking at Southwest.com.

1Based on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s most recent data, Southwest Airlines is the nation’s largest carrier as measured by the number of originating domestic passengers boarded.
