St. Moritz: Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski celebrates its 20th anniversary

The hotel unveils a new lobby and lobby bar this Winter season.

ST. MORITZ – This winter season sees a major milestone in the history of Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski as the hotel celebrates its 20th birthday in December 2022. To celebrate those two decades, the hotel invites its guests and locals of St Moritz to experience its freshly renovated lobby as well as a brand-new lobby bar redesigned in a contemporary style.

20 years of Swiss heritage and modern luxury
Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski is immersed in tradition and can look back on a renowned history. The destination St Moritz Bad became famous for its carbonated and iron-rich Mauritius spring, which led to the first spa tourism in the 19th century. Since then, guests of the hotel have been able to sample the spring water from a fountain located in the spa area of the hotel. It has been 20 years since Kempinski Hotels, Europe's oldest hotel group, reopened the iconic Grand Hotel des Bains in December 2002, after a 14-month renovation process.

This elegant hotel stands for nobility and tradition. The very sight of the famous building, with its characteristic corner towers and oriels, makes the hearts of lovers of the highest hotel culture beat noticeably faster, and not without reason. This five-star hotel with an international reputation has always succeeded in combining the joy of traditional Swiss heritage and culture with modern nonchalance, contemporary luxury service and – just as important – just the right amount of sportiness.

After all, the hotel is located at the foot of the Signalbahn and the legendary Hahnensee piste, and offers its guests the opportunity to ski in/ski out to the Corviglia and Corvatsch ski areas. The cross-country ski trails and hiking paths in the hotel park also lead directly to the lakes and forests in the Engadine valley. So, nothing stands in the way of an active winter or summer holiday.

The new living room of St Moritz
The Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski has unveiled an intensive two-month renovation of its lobby area and adjoining bar. The renovation also included the refurbishing of the buffet area at the award-winning main restaurant, Les Saisons, a new entry and reception area as well as new luxury-shopping units.

Local architect Nikolas Travaseros, who is also an interior designer, on Grace La Margna and other projects, led this grand project. The transformation brings new elegance and luxury to the St Moritz hotel. A mix of comfort and contemporary design was chosen, with clean lines, brightness and an open, modern atmosphere. The hotel sets out to deliver the best cocktail-sipping spot in St Moritz. The Kempinski Bar & Lobby will be a haven, where trendsetters can find refuge and unwind after an active day out, enjoy a glass of a refreshing beverage or enjoy the Kempinski's signature high tea with fine Swiss patisserie.

Further upgrading planned
Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski will continue its upgrade in the upcoming off seasons with an extensive renovation of its room product. General Manager Konstantin Zeuke says: "Today, Grand Hotel des Bains remains a symbol of modern luxury and impeccable service, welcoming its 20th anniversary. The hotel has performed well since the beginning, when it opened during the Ski WM in 2002. Since then, it has continued the way of European Luxury and Excellence as one of the flagship hotels within the Kempinski portfolio. In the future, we will continue with exciting and ambitious projects and add-ons to the hotel, such as innovative and local guest experiences, renovated rooms, an outdoor pool for the Alpine Spa, and a Cabaret-, Dining- and Entertainment venue, where the former Casino was located. Lastly, we would like to convey our appreciation to those who have been with us and supported us over the past 20 years – our guests, partners, suppliers and, of course, our great hosts!"
