MAG-owned East Midlands and Bournemouth airports announce services to the heart of Northern Iceland and the stunning Northern Lights display with Super Break this upcoming winter season. Working closely with the leading UK tour operator, both airports will be linked to Akureyi in Iceland in early 2018.
East Midlands Airport attracted services to Keflavik earlier this year, making Akureyi – known as the heart of Northern Iceland – its second Icelandic destination.
Short-break specialist Super Break has announced two new Icelandic connections from MAG-owned airports at East Midlands and Bournemouth. The leading tour operator will offer flights to Akureyri from both airports, flown on 189-seat 737-800s, with Bournemouth’s flight on 22 January 2018 and the East Midlands’ service launching on 2 February 2018.
“The Northern lights phenomena is really taking off so it’s great to be able to offer our passengers this opportunity,” said Howard Ebison, Commercial Director, East Midlands Airport, Bournemouth Airport and MAG Cargo. “Initial feedback has been really positive. We’re working closely with Super Break to look at longer-term possibilities of expanding the programme already.”

As a result of Super Break’s new service, the airport will be offering 57 destinations across 25 countries in W17/18, the addition of this operation expanding the airport’s existing winter capacity to this dynamic market.
As a new destination and country market to Bournemouth’s route network, the new flight to the second largest city in Iceland will result in the airport offering 16 destinations across 10 countries during this upcoming winter season.
