ERA has launched a second edition of its sustainability report, titled Green and Sustainable Flying, once again showcasing regional aviation stakeholders’ progress in tackling environmental concerns.
The European Regions Airline Association (ERA) has announced the production of its second sustainability report at this year’s ERA General Assembly. The report confirms that despite the devastation felt by the aviation industry following the COVID-19 pandemic, regional aviation is committed to building a sustainable future.
ERA has launched a second edition of its sustainability report, titled Green and Sustainable Flying, once again showcasing regional aviation stakeholders’ progress in tackling environmental concerns. The report outlines the work being undertaken by ERA’s members,1 particularly member airlines, as they look to decarbonise aviation by 2050.
The association published its first Green and Sustainable Connectivity report in May 2020, featuring its members’ sustainability initiatives; however, this report was drafted prior to COVID-19. Therefore, the second edition emphasises that whilst the COVID crisis has significantly impacted the aviation industry, environmental issues remain a top priority for the sector.
Montserrat Barriga, Director General, ERA, said: “COVID-19 proved aviation’s importance as an industry, given its significant contribution to Europe’s economy, employment and the wellbeing of society. The regional sector is proving its leading role in lending itself to new and clean technologies, making it the forerunner for testing and selecting ‘green’ solutions. That is why, despite the effects of the pandemic, ERA’s members have continued to work diligently, playing a crucial role in the industry’s efforts to decarbonise.”
1 The report features only recent initiatives from the following ERA members: Air Corsica; Air Nostrum; Amelia; Flugfelag Islands (Icelandair); KLM Cityhopper; SATA Açores Airlines; and SKY express, as well as Collins Aerospace; Universal Hydrogen; and ZeroAvia.
