Swiss stone pine ensures a good night’s sleep in the new Rochon Rooms at Kulm Hotel St. Moritz

The new rooms and suites designed by acclaimed French architect and interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon are in addition to 30 generously-proportioned rooms and suites that he created in another wing of the property in late 2015.

ST. MORITZ, SWITZERLAND – The Kulm Hotel St. Moritz has undergone the largest room renovation in its long and illustrious history, creating 40 new rooms that all incorporate traditional Swiss stone pine walls (very typical of the Engadine region), which have the added bonus of improving guests’ sleep (medical studies have shown that stone pine wood lowers the heart rate and induces a deeper sleep).

The new rooms and suites designed by acclaimed French architect and interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon are in addition to 30 generously-proportioned rooms and suites that he created in another wing of the property in late 2015.

Rochon, who has worked with numerous luxury brands including Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts and The Peninsula Hotels, has conceived an entirely new look for these rooms, juxtaposing traditional grandeur with a modern Alpine style that is sophisticated and comfortable in equal measure.

Focusing on guests’ needs, Rochon designed the rooms to resemble luxurious, light-filled apartments and studios, arranging the layouts in a way that creates more practical areas including spacious bathrooms with separate, large glass showers and a large dressing space, as well as functional fittings such as noise-reducing carpets and the Swiss stone pine walls.

The exquisitely designed rooms also use tranquil, elegant colours with pops of deep indigo and red, and include comfortable furnishings, while discreetly incorporating the latest technology.

According to Rochon, “With every new project, I consider the existing architecture, the environment, the local people’s way of life and local building materials; I respect the resort’s history and its traditions. And then I hope to create something that will amaze the hotel guests that choose and love this property and make them like it even more. The design has to be committed to the needs of the guests, rather than reflect the ego of an interior architect”.
