Taleb Rifai (UNWTO): What Greece has managed to do in recent years is a modern-day miracle

We had the opportunity and the honor to meet with Secretary General of World Tourism Organization, Mr. Taleb Rifai, who spoke to TravelDailyNews about the most significant achievements in these eight years lying in the administration of the Organization and also about the concerns and problems that exist all over the world. Finally, the Secretary General talked about Greece and the great effort that has been made for this recovery in recent years, exuding an air of optimism for the country.

In the video interview below Mr Taleb Rifai replies to the following questions:

  • TravelDailyNews: Your incumbency will end at the end of this year, after 8 very successful years. Your administration achieved a lot of things. What are you really proud of, among these achievements?
  • TDN: There is much turbulence around the Globe and tourism operates, more and more, in such an environment. What do you recommend to the governments to do in order to built resilience?
  • TDN: As we are in Greece, I would like to ask you about the greek tourism. The tourism market and the entrepreneurs are asking more and more to reduce the taxes. What is your opinion about the taxation system in tourism?

 

 

Taleb Rifai is the current Secretary-General of the United Nations' World Tourism Organization, based in Madrid, Spain, where he has held the post since being unanimously elected in 2010.

Prior to assuming his current post, Taleb Rifai was the Assistant Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO) for three consecutive years. His responsibilities included the overall supervision and implementation of the International Labor Standards, as well as advising on labor markets and employment policies, particularly in the Middle East region.
