The 10 best British cities to get stuck in this summer

Taking the crown for being the best summer city destination this year is the quaint cathedral city of Chichester, located in West Sussex.

Whether you’re looking for a coastal town to breathe in the fresh sea air or a historical city tucked away in the middle of the British countryside, the UK has it all. Many of us are reluctant to leave the country with travel guidelines remaining uncertain, so why not play it safe and head to a UK destination for your city break this year.

That’s why Holidu, the search engine for holiday rentals, after taking into account important summer factors such as the average number of hours of sun, average temperature, number of parks, lakes, beaches, swimming pools and icecream shops, and comparing these with the density of the cities, can now present exactly which towns and cities are the best locations for a British summer staycation.

The top best British cities to visit:
1. Chichester – 6.42/10
2. Ely – 5.55/10
3. Southend-on-Sea – 5.13/10
4. Bournemouth – 5.09/10
6. Peterborough – 4.82/10
7. St Albans – 4.70/10
8. Brighton – 4.69/10
9. Cambridge – 4.62/10
10. Norwich – 4.39/10

To create this ranking, the average number of hours of sun and the average temperature was used, based on the months July-September during the years 2009 to 2017, according to data provided by worldweatheronline.com. The density of the number of parks, lakes, beaches, swimming pools and ice-cream shops for 73 towns and cities in the UK were extracted from Google. The scores from 0 to 10 were given using a normalisation formula, then the final score was calculated giving equal weighting to each data point.
