The FiturNext Observatory is still seeking initiatives that will contribute to gender equality for its 2021 challenge

The platform will reward tourism projects that are highly replicable and that acknowledge the role of women in the industry, during the next edition of FITUR, which will take place from the 19 to 23 May 2021 at the IFEMA facilities.

MADRID – The call to participate in the 2021 challenge of the FiturNext Observatory, the FITUR observatory dedicated to promoting good tourism practises pertaining to sustainability, is still open. All projects and initiatives that promote responsible tourism and contribute with decisions aimed at seeking equality and acknowledging the role of women in the industry still have time to register to participate.

Over 400 initiatives analysed for an unprecedented challenge
So far, FiturNext has already analysed 400 initiatives and has held dozens of interviews worldwide. The high-quality proposals received contribute to female empowerment, whether regarding labour conditions, entrepreneurship or leadership.

The call for participation will remain open throughout the next few months. During the first quarter of 2021 the platform will announce the finalist projects for this edition, and in April it will announce the winners. Until then, the FiturNext team will continue to work on a programme that will be presented at the next edition of FITUR (from the 19 to 23 May 2021) and will show the amount and the quality of the initiatives submitted worldwide and which contribute their bit towards gender equality through tourism, a key driving force for the recovery of the sector after Covid-19.

A challenge that is in alignment with the United Nations SDG and is replicable
The challenge for this second edition of FiturNext is in alignment with the fifth United Nations Sustainable Development Goal. One of the main elements required to achieve a balanced society and sustainable development is responsible tourism, where all of the actions by the agents involved must include a guarantee for gender equality.

The initiatives are chosen based on their replicability, in other words, the possibilities they have of being reproduced by other sector agents who have different resources. This is achieved by using the Barometer for replicability and impact on the challenge, a tool that assesses the projects based on two dimensions: the level of maturity of the initiative and its feasibility through the requirements for it to be replicated.

The end goal of FiturNext is to increase the positive impact on the sector by replicating these practises.
