The Langley, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Buckinghamshire appoints Alex James as Spa Director

Alex James has accumulated over 14 years’ experience within the spa industry, having cultivated her career at several high-profile institutions including The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, London and The Spa at The Landmark London.

LONDON – The Langley, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Buckinghamshire is delighted to announce that Alex James has joined the team as spa director. Alex’s appointment will see her responsible for the launch of The Langley Spa, promising a world-class destination complete with a selection of unparalleled spa experiences when it opens in late 2018.

Nestled within 500 acres of idyllic Buckinghamshire countryside, The Langley is a 41-room boutique hotel and spa, owned and managed by City & Country Hotels. Following a meticulous restoration spanning five years, the former hunting lodge of the third Duke of Marlborough will create an outstanding retreat for both local and international guests alike, complete with a collection of epicurean experiences just a 40-minute drive from central London.

Alex has accumulated over 14 years’ experience within the spa industry, having cultivated her career at several high-profile institutions including The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, London and The Spa at The Landmark London. Her most recent experience as spa manager at the latter is pivotal to her new role at The Langley, having led the team through a complete refurbishment while also redeveloping its treatment menu, bringing new spa brand partners on board to create an entirely new treatment offering.

Prior to The Landmark, Alex gained a wealth of experience from her time at Mandarin Oriental, where she progressed from advanced spa therapist to acting spa director over the course of seven years. In addition to these positions, Alex acted as trainer for the EMEA region, a position which saw her play a key role in the pre-opening teams for new developments within the group, notably in Paris and Barcelona. Her expertise in this area forms an integral part of her experience, an asset which can be applied to the successful launch of The Langley Spa.

In her role at The Langley, Alex will work alongside the pre-opening team comprised of spa consultants SMC Leisure, Dennis Irvine Studio and Multiplex to support the completion of the build to the highest standard and ensure that it is tailored to deliver an unparalleled guest experience. She will be responsible for the curation of the treatment menu, liaising with the spa’s brand partners to ensure that the services that The Langley will provide are authentic and results-driven, while maintaining the highest level of service standards, privacy and luxury. In addition, Alex will be responsible for recruiting a spa team of approximately 25 people, as well as managing membership pre-sales and events.

On her appointment, Alex commented: “I am thrilled to have joined the pre-opening team at The Langley as we build momentum to its anticipated launch. My ultimate aim is to guide the team to deliver our mission statement, which is to provide an unparalleled spa experience alongside a highly-personalised service tailored to each guests’ needs.

“The spa’s unique specifications will bring an entirely new dimension to the UK’s luxury spa scene; from its curated treatments, leisure and thermal experiences to its world-class fitness facility which will be run in partnership with renowned personal trainer Matt Roberts, we are confident that we will have a big impact when we launch later this year.”

Adding to this, hotel manager David Harris said: “I am delighted that Alex has taken the lead on The Langley Spa. She is a fantastic asset to the team, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table along with a knack for detail and front-of-house management style that is perfectly suited to our ambitions for The Langley. Combined with a personal passion and enthusiasm for the industry, we are positive that the spa will flourish under her direction.”

The Langley Spa will offer a limited, private membership programme, with a range of memberships available for individuals, couples and families. Membership will provide access to all of the facilities and services on offer, delivering a complete lifestyle and wellness experience in a luxurious environment.

The Langley Spa will be open to hotel residents, day guests and members.
