The number of persons with reduced mobility serviced by Riga Airport has increased

The servicing standard of Riga Airport in regard to PRM passengers includes understanding that every such passenger is a unique person with different individual needs and requires additional services.

From January to November 2021, Riga Airport serviced 6,251 passengers with reduced mobility which is 0.31% of all the passengers serviced by the Airport during this period. The number of these passengers slightly exceeded 4,800 in 2020. 

The Airport provides services to the passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) from the moment of arrival at the airport until reaching his/her seat on the board of aircraft, or from the arrivals zone and luggage collection to public transport when leaving the territory of the Airport or to transit flight from Riga.  

“Openness to diversity, respectful attitude towards every passenger and responsibility towards the society are the core daily operating values of the Airport. People with disability or limited movement abilities have to be able to enjoy their trip with aircraft as much as everybody else,” said the Airport’s Chairwoman of the Board, Laila Odiņa.  

Knowledge and skills of the Airport and employees of companies operating in the Airport about servicing PRM passengers are regularly improved at trainings. The Airport regularly assesses the quality of services in passenger surveys and internal and external audit procedures, including in close cooperation with non-governmental organisations, experts and applying the best practice of the leading European airports. Average satisfaction index of passengers about the services exceeds 4.7 out of 5 in 2021. Riga Airport has been included among the best European airports of the Airports Council International (ACI) in category Accessibility of Airports. 

The servicing standard of Riga Airport in regard to PRM passengers includes understanding that every such passenger is a unique person with different individual needs and requires additional services. The standard prescribes that these people are provided specifically tailored services with all due respect without discrimination and respecting the person’s wish to be as independent as possible.  

Since 1992, 3 December has been announced as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities according to the decision of the UN Special Plenary Meeting.
