Tips for reducing flight stress with kids and toddlers

Check out these stress-relieving tips for flying with a toddler, whether you’re flying to Disney World or a relative’s residence.

If you don't prepare well, taking a toddler on vacation is not a vacation. Flying isn't the most enjoyable experience due to the congested aeroplane seats and crowded waiting areas. The annoyance is only amplified when a hyperactive kid is involved. Simply put, young toddlers lack the patience necessary for airport security. They detest sitting quietly for extended periods and dread sudden, loud shifts in air pressure.

Thankfully, with the proper planning and preparation, you may enjoy a worry-free travel day. Check out these stress-relieving tips for flying with a toddler, whether you're flying to Disney World or a relative's residence.

Schedule a morning departure
An early morning flight is your best chance to prevent delays during takeoff and landing. If you want to enjoy your favorite games while playing online while travelling, you need to make your kids fall asleep. As these flights are typically less crowded and everyone is generally exhausted and just wants to rest, especially kids, this hack usually works. Avoid connecting flights as it disturbs kids.

Tell your children what to expect
It can be easier for everyone involved when travelling to tell the child what to expect ahead of the journey. This is because the child will then register what is to come in a certain way and be able to process the experience, rather than be completely knocked over by it and potentially finding it too hard to handle all at one go.

Bring new toys
A wrapped new toy has two benefits while travelling with a toddler: kids enjoy opening things, and a new object has a greater attention-grabbing pull.

How to cope with the air pressure.
Ask your doctor's permission before travelling with your child if they have recently had a cold or an ear infection. Pain could result from the shift in cabin air pressure. Additionally, after clearing security, stock up on water for everyone so they can survive any delays and still have some for the descent, which is when ear pressure discomfort is most bothersome. Have your children have some immediately the following takeoff and throughout the final 30-45 minutes of the launch. Swallowing relieves pressure and has the added benefit of hydrating.

Maintain your cool
You can't do much to appease the passenger who complains whenever your kid laughs or sneezes. Keep the following in mind: Everyone is on your side if you try your best. Remember, an adult having a problem with a crying toddler behaves like a child. Don't interact. Only focus on your child.

Children should be seated away from the aisle
Toddlers may be at risk in aisle seats. Little hands are dangerously close to hot coffee or water as the food service cart passes.

Final thoughts
While it's impossible to ensure that your toddler will be happy and content the whole flight, it can reduce your stress levels as a parent with good planning and preparation. If you follow these steps — or some of them at least — you just might raise your comfort level on family vacations in an aeroplane, too!
