TripActions sees significant growth in 2019

2019 saw TripActions build on its commitment to increase inventory, reduce carbon footprint and build trust with its customers to truly cement itself as one the best TMCs in the world.

LONDON – TripActions, the fastest-growing business travel platform trusted by the world’s most innovative companies, saw considerable growth in 2019. Since securing one of the biggest Series D funding rounds last year ($250 million), TripActions now has a company valuation of $4 billion after just four years of trading.

With the additional funding, TripActions has been able to dial up on its inventory by adding to its New Distribution Capability (NDC) offering and building on the deployment of its Next Gen Storefront (NGS). In recent months, TripActions turned on direct connections with Southwest Airlines and Lufthansa Group, following an inaugural direct connect with United Airlines in June. This has considerably boosted the TripActions inventory, making it one of the best in the world.

Creating a sustainable future
Over the past 12 months, TripActions also set up a carbon offsetting programme as part of its mission to ensure travel is as sustainable as possible. With 90% of travellers across Europe now believing it’s important for their employer to offset their business travel, carbon offsetting has become a priority for TripActons. The current offering enables customers to monitor their company’s carbon footprint through real-time corporate carbon impact data while also allowing total transparency at the traveller level. Employees can then track their own individual carbon footprint and have the choice of whether to offset their journey.

Building trust with customers
Carbon offsetting is one way of building trust with customers but given that business travel is stressful, with many businesses relying heavily on it in order to close deals or build relationships, finding ways to build trust and transparency with customers is vital. This is why TripActions is committed to offering customers 24 hour support, with real people, 365 days a year, with an impressive 60 second response time for 90% of calls and chats.

What’s more, as a continuation of TripActions’ efforts to deliver the best experience in business travel, it announced a partnership with Twilio to rebuild its support infrastructure keeping the customer in mind from start to finish. TripActions support was previously built on two unique, out-of-the-box platforms. Moving forward, all support will be managed on one platform, built in-house, on top of Twilio Flex. Twilio Flex offers a fully customizable contact centre, which allows TripActions to reimagine what travellers and travel managers can expect from its proactive, global travel agents.

Expanding leadership team
As the business continues to scale globally, with 5X year over year growth, it was also the perfect time to bring on board Thomas Tuchscherer who has joined in the newly created role of CFO at TripActions. Tuchscherer brings more than 20 years of financial and operations experience in scaling hyper-growth tech companies, to this new role at TripActions. Thomas’ background, experience, and passion for the user compliments our mission-driven leadership team and culture to propel TripActions into the next phase of growth to reach new markets, industries, and enterprises globally.

Industry recognition
Last year also saw TripActions positioned as a Leader in IDC recent Worldwide SaaS and Cloud-Enabled Corporate Travel Booking Applications report. This is particularly exciting for TripActions as it’s the first time it has been recognised by a third party analyst report, validating its aggressive growth in the market.

Ilan Twigg CTO and Co-found at TripActions said: “2019 was a significant year for TripActions. Not only have we secured a colossal amount of funding but we’ve also stuck to our commitments in terms of growing our NDCs and GDS. We’ve also continued to ensure that our customers – whether that be travel managers, or the travellers themselves – are at the heart of every decision we make. We plan to continue building on our momentum into 2020, while also realising our future expansion plans into Europe.”
