When flying – especially when making a connecting flight – checking your luggage is a convenient way to deal with clunky luggage in the airport. But what’s the risk?
Stratos Jets analyzed over 7,900 TSA claims from the past year to uncover just how hard it is to get reimbursed for lost, damaged, or stolen items. Findings:
- Nearly 7 in 10 claims for lost or stolen property are denied by the TSA
- You have a good chance (~50%) of being reimbursed for travel accessories (low-cost items like charging cables)
- Nearly 3 in 4 claims filed for jewelry were denied
- JFK has more claims of loss and theft than any other airport in the country
- More than two-thirds of claims for currency and cameras were denied in 2016
