Taking a mini-break to explore a new city broadens your horizons and helps you see things from a whole new perspective.

Being a student is no reason to miss out on a holiday! We all need to get away from it all from time to time and a mini-break in another city could be just the thing you need. Here are some reasons why a getaway is a good idea for university students and suggestions for cities you should pay a visit to.

Reasons to take a mini-break as a student
Taking a mini-break to explore a new city broadens your horizons and helps you see things from a whole new perspective. It’s an ideal way to take a break from studying and can also be a great way to cement those new friendships you’ve made, as travel can strengthen friendships and help you form deeper connections.

Finances are a big issue for many students and can make travelling abroad difficult or impossible but a UK break can be just as much fun and a more affordable option for many. To fund your getaway, you could get a part-time job alongside your studies or take out an extra student loan to tide you over before your next student loan instalment.

Places to visit
Here are some of the best UK cities to visit as a student.

Edinburgh
As one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Scotland’s capital makes the perfect place for a short break. Steeped in history, from Edinburgh Castle to the Old Town and with incredible views from Arthur’s Seat and Calton Hill, there’s certainly plenty to see. You won’t be short of things to do either, with a zoo, botanical gardens, dungeons, a palace, and an art gallery to visit during the day. The nightlife is fantastic too and you won’t want to leave without trying a wee dram of Scottish whisky!

Manchester
Manchester is an incredibly student-friendly place to visit as the city boasts an incredible five universities of its own, meaning there’s always something happening, from live music and theatre to museums and shopping. You’ll definitely want to pay a visit to the Northern Quarter, where you’ll find all the best independent shops, cafés and bars along with the famous Affleck’s Palace.

Glasgow
Another fantastic Scottish city to visit as a student is Glasgow. Well-known for its music scene, Glasgow is perfect for music fans and a visit to King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut is a must. In Glasgow’s West End, you’ll find Ashton Lane, which has bars, restaurants and even a licensed cinema, making it perfect for a student night out.

Brighton
This sunny, seaside city makes the ideal student getaway. You can enjoy its 8 miles of stunning beaches, shop ‘til you drop at its independent stores and boutiques or enjoy the live music and entertainment that the city is famous for. Don’t miss the Brighton Palace Pier for fish and chips and fairground rides!

Liverpool
Famous as the hometown of The Beatles, Liverpool is a UNESCO city of music and has everything from live music venues like The Zanzibar Club, to karaoke bars to waterfront museums like The British Music Experience and The Beatles Story. You can also take an open-top bus tour or visit the Tate Liverpool and grab something delicious to eat at the Royal Albert Dock.
