UK’s favourite staycation destination

Emoov’s Rural Working Index has scored 20 of the most popular UK holiday spots, based on their remote working credentials, such as WiFi speed, homes with gardens and office space and 3+ beds, parking amongst others.

As the UK’s biggest cities become increasingly unaffordable, a new study by Emoov finds that 50% of workers and freelancers currently living in a city like London would like to move to their favourite staycation destinations.

But how suitable are these locations for working from home? Emoov’s Rural Working Index has scored 20 of the most popular UK holiday spots, based on their remote working credentials, such as WiFi speed, homes with gardens and office space and 3+ beds, parking amongst others.

These are the 10 best staycation destinations for remote working scored out of 90 possible points:

  • Brixham, Devon – 58/90
  • Knaresborough, Yorkshire – 56.5
  • St Ives, Cornwall – 49
  • Shaftesbury, Dorset – 43
  • Malton, Yorkshire – 39
  • Keswick, Cumbria – 35.5
  • Aberaeron, Ceredigion – 34.5
  • Lyme Regis, Dorset – 31.5
  • Glenarm Village, County Antrim – 29.5
  • Portmeirion, Gwynedd – 29
  • Lacock, Wiltshire – 25
  • Robin's Hood Bay, Yorkshire – 24
  • Aldeburgh, Suffolk – 23.5
  • Mevagissey, Cornwall – 23.5
  • Portree, Isle of Skye – 23
  • Cullen, Banffshire – 22
  • Hathersage, Derbyshire – 21.5
  • Bibury, Gloucestershire – 19.5
  • Applecross, Highland – 16
  • Rathlin Island, County Antrim – 8

Brixham in Devon tops the list due to their affordable houses with space for the whole family. The town can offer a lot of recreational activities, from restaurants looking out to sea to the annual pirate festival, there’s plenty to do.

Rathlin Island came in last due to poor internet availability. The benefits of being on an island are still great, and it boasts excellent hiking opportunities, however, getting to and from your home from the mainland can be difficult.
