ATHENS – For the first time ever, Variety Cruises, Greece’s small ship cruise company, launched itineraries in the exotic French Polynesian destination of Tahiti starting in May 2022 and sailing year round through December 2023. Ideal for nature, diving and hiking enthusiasts, honeymooners, LGBTQ and adventure travelers and trip of a lifetime seekers, Variety Cruises takes guests to explore Tahiti and its islands sailing round-trip from Papeete port to uncover the treasures of French Polynesia, the perfect destination for small ship sailing.

While the eight-day itinerary visits many of Tahiti’s iconic islands like Bora Bora, Taha'a, Moorea, Huahine and Raiatea – defined by sky-piercing, moss-green peaks, lined with vivid turquoise lagoons – Variety Cruises goes deeper with the 11-day itinerary exploring the remote and less visited Tuamotu archipelago adding Makatea and more unexplored islands. Island hopping allows guests to see every landscape, from geometric ridges strung with waterfalls to flat, desert-like atolls where lagoons far outsize the landmass. In Tahitian culture, mana is a spiritual energy that surrounds everything, and Variety Cruises invites guests to experience this physical and spiritual journey of the senses.

We are excited to share that Tahiti is our newest destination addition to the Variety Cruises family,” said Variety Cruises CEO, Filippos Venetopoulos. “We take pride in bringing friendly and enthusiastic Greek hospitality to ports all over the world, now including French Polynesia. We’re a growing company and this new destination launch is indicative of the expansion our company will be seeing in the years to come.”

Guests will experience the natural wonders, culinary delights and cultural legacy of this island paradise led by an onboard Naturalist/Cruise Coordinator accompanying group tours led by local expert guides supporting the local community. Explore aquatic life in Bora Bora and history in Huahine, the cradle of Polynesian culture, with the largest concentration of ancient marae (temples) and once home to Tahitian royalty. Optional tours on ATV’s take guests to the beautiful interior of Taha`a to discover luxurious tropical vegetation, witness breathtaking views of the turquoise bay of Haamene and even a pearl farm visit. In Raiatea, which translates to "faraway heaven" and once the cultural and religious center of the Society Islands, guests can kayak the Faaroa River with an expert local guide and visit the ancient temple at Taputapuatea, recently named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tour Moorea which was believed to have inspired the mythical Bali Hai from James Michener's Tales of the South Pacific. Variety is also working with The Mokarran Protection Society, a non-profit organization located in Rangiroa that studies and protects the Great Hammerhead Shark, educating guests and furthering the company’s marine protection philanthropic initiatives. The varied itineraries have something for everyone including fun beach barbecues and gorgeous lagoon swim stops along the way provided with kayaks, snorkeling, SUP’s and more.

Variety Cruises has made every effort to have their life-enriching experiences reflect cultural and ecological sustainability and inclusiveness, a company priority, creating a better world at sea with sails that are in-depth and community-driven, that go deeper and give back to the community leaving a minimal footprint behind.
