Volotea resumes operations from Athens with a renewd Airbus fleet, serving a total of 11 destinations

This year the airline will fly from Athens to 11 destinations, for 2022 three extra destinations are already on sale: Cagliari, Genoa and Split. Volotea has completely renewed its fleet, basing two Airbus A319s in Athens.

ATHENS – Volotea, the airline connecting mid-sized European cities is taking off from Eleftherios Venizelos airport with a 100% Airbus fleet, 11 destinations and a total offer of 350,000 seats. Next year, the airline will increase its offer by adding three exclusive destinations that are already on sale.

During an event held at The Albion, in Psychiko, the airline shared its 2021 program for Athens with a total of 11 routes, 2 of which are exclusive: Bari, Dubrovnik, Heraklion, Lyon, Marseille, Mykonos, Rhodes, Santorini, Strasbourg, Venice, Verona. In total, more than 350,000 seats will be offered this year. Since the start of its operations in Athens in 2015,

Volotea has offered a total of 1.3 million seats. For 2022, the airline has already put on sale three more routes: Cagliari, Genoa and Split.

Furthermore, Volotea has substituted its Boeing 717s with two Airbus A319s in Athens, offering more capacity per flight (156 seats vs 125 seats). In January, Volotea accelerated its fleet change with the early retirement of 14 Boeing 717s and since then it has become a 100% Airbus airline with a fleet of 40 aircrafts (20 A319s, 20 A320s). By becoming an Airbus- only carrier, Volotea will benefit from multiple advantages such as a single pilot license, reduced maintenance costs, simplified scheduling, easier monitoring and control in all areas – above all safety – and a significant volume advantage in its supplier relationships.

"We are very pleased to restart our operations in Athens and in all Greece. Athens is an important base for Volotea, it feels great to be back! Starting operations with this new, more modern and efficient fleet will not only allow us to carry more passengers, ensuring comfort, safety and quality of service on board, but also significantly reduce the company's carbon footprint per passenger" said Valeria Rebasti, Country Manager Italy & Southeastern Europe.

“We are indeed thrilled to be welcoming our excellent partner, Volotea, with whom we share a long-standing and close cooperation, back to Athens! A wide range of traveling options is available to the passengers, with Volotea’s new fleet that reflects the airline’s commitment to environment protection and sustainability. We wish to our airline partner safe and full flights and lots of success and we remain firmly committed to support Volotea’s development and growth to the Athenian market”, said Ioanna Papadopoulou, Athens International Airport’s Director, Communications & Marketing.
