When will the European football resume?

While there is no sign that the football stadium will be opened for the public during the match, many fans around the world will be able to watch the match on their home television. Many believe that the reopening of matches may build the morale of the people. But not all are happy about it. Some are worried about the possible spread of the virus when the match returned.

For football teams and fans in Europe, April and May should be the biggest and the busiest month. In these months, the final stretch of football leagues is happening. But this year, the football fields where football fans usually cheer and bet are empty because of the government-imposed lockdowns following the rapid spread of the coronavirus.

Months have passed since the first reported case, the movement restriction has been relaxed across the continent while countries start to reopen. After some cancelation of the events, some major football leagues are also planning to resume. Germany's Bundesliga matches, in fact, resumed behind closed doors. Bundesliga is the first European League that returned to competition.

The re-opening of football leagues, on the other hand, is good news for some bookmakers. Betting is one of the most affected industries following the coronavirus shutdown sports. Since no live games happening for months, many bookmakers had closed down. Punters are shifting to internet casinos to be entertained.

The return of the European Football League gave the opportunity to bookmakers to operate and offer sports betting again. Online bookmakers like Nowbet started offering betting events on football leagues in Europe. Punters who signed up for gaming account can receive bonus from nowbet and place a bet on their favorite teams.

The government and league officials are planning how the matches will return safely. Here’s a look at the situation in the main European leagues.

Bundesliga
German Bundesliga is the first major European football league that resumed the competition. The league kick-off in the empty stadium on May 16. It was Chancellor Angela Merkel who gave the green light on May 6 for the league to resume.

There are nine games remaining in Bundesliga with all 18 clubs playing over.  Bayern Munich is top of the table.

Players in the league returned to training last month.

The U.K.'s Independent newspaper called the Bundesliga's return a "piece of history" as it has set a precedent for other leagues to follow.

La Liga
Organizers aim to restart La Liga in June. According to the statement of La Liga President Javier Tebas, June 12 is the earliest potential date for the resumption of La Liga matches and it will be done on the close door. This means that no fans are allowed to enter the stadium.

Javier added that it is up for the Spanish health authorities to decide on whether or not the league should resume.

Five players were diagnosed as positive for COVID-19 after the first round of testing.

Since the league suspension in mid-March, players have been allowed to resume training from early May.

According to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), if La Liga cannot be completed this year, it plans to award next season's European places according to teams' current league positions.

That means that Barcelona which is the current league leader, Real Madrid, Sevilla, and Real Sociedad would qualify for the Champions League.

Serie A
The 20 teams in Serie A agreed to resume the completion on June 13, however, they still need the approval of the government to be able to make it happen. As of now, the government has no official announcement on the league’s reopening.

Players in Serie A already resumed training individually. Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora said full team training would be allowed on May 18 when the country’s coronavirus lockdown had been lifted.

The completion was suspended on March 9. Serie A has 12 remaining rounds and four outstanding fixtures left to play.  Juventus is currently the top of the table with one ahead of Lazio.

Premier League
The Premier League is set to resume in June. The UK government and Premier League officials agreed on the schedule.

Oliver Dowden, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport said that it should be accessible to football fans through a live broadcast on Free-to-air television. Fans are not allowed to attend the said events.

It is possible, though, that Premier League restart would face further delay as players are voicing their safety concerns.

After the team started small group training, the Premier League announced that its clubs had returned six positive coronavirus tests after 748 players and staff from 19 clubs were tested.

Teams in Premier leagues have nine to 10 matches to play individually to complete the season.
