Why visiting a new country is a great idea

Same old, same old - or new holiday horizons?

Many people tend to stick to tried-and-trusted places, preferring the comfort of heading to somewhere they are familiar with rather than gambling on the great unknown. However, a large number of travellers love to explore new destinations, thus widening the scope of the lifelong memories they create for themselves.

Deciding where to go on holiday each year can be an extremely tricky task, with the world packed with thousands of destinations worth checking out.

Many people tend to stick to tried-and-trusted places, preferring the comfort of heading to somewhere they are familiar with rather than gambling on the great unknown.

However, a large number of travellers love to explore new destinations, thus widening the scope of the lifelong memories they create for themselves.

There are numerous reasons why choosing a new country for a holiday is a great idea – read on as we look at some of our favourites.

Learning about different cultures
If sunbathing on the beach while sipping a cocktail is your thing, you may well be missing out on a world of culture when you go away on holiday.

Immersing yourself into the local culture of the places you visit is not only hugely informative, but can provide you with a far more rewarding holiday experience.

A cultural holiday is one where you explore the local attractions, spend time meandering around the streets and maybe visit bars or eateries that are located off the beaten track.

Learning some of the local language can also prove to be invaluable, giving you the opportunity to interact effectively with the locals to find out more about where they live.

Travel writer, Jennifer Pellerito, says that it can be challenging to fully immerse yourself in a local culture, but believes that the rewards make the effort worthwhile.

Learning about centuries-old etiquette, distinctive ways of life and unfamiliar social norms requires more than just a few days – these can take months, even years to fully grasp,” she said.

But as I’ve learned from my experiences abroad, there are a few simple things that seasoned travellers can do to get a better, deeper understanding of a place and its people."

By diving headfirst into a new culture with care and curiosity, you can experience a place at its and your best.

The bucket list argument
Millions of people around the world compile a bucket list of experiences or achievements that they hope to enjoy or accomplish during their lifetime.

For many individuals this will include visiting destinations that may seem like an impossible dream, often due to the finances or distance involved in getting there.

For instance, someone who enjoys playing the wide range of games at 888 ladies bingo may yearn to visit iconic gambling destinations such as Monte Carlo.

Legendary venues such as the Casino de Monte-Carlo feature on many people’s bucket list, while the Cafe de Paris is also spoken about in glowing terms across the world.

The latter features a light-filled panoramic Parisian terrace which is perfect for eating either breakfast or lunch in the sun.

The warm and elegant indoors is ideal for dinners after work and visitors can relax afterwards with some cocktails and a few games of video bingo.

Monte Carlo has historically been a hub for gambling games like roulette, craps and blackjack, but bingo did not arrive there until January 2019.

However, it has quickly proved to be hugely popular in the Principality, with thousands of players taking advantage of the opportunity to play bingo games.

Fulfilling your dream of visiting new places is tremendously satisfying, which is why many people put iconic destinations like Monte Carlo on their bucket list.

Embarking on new adventures gives you the chance to do the things you desire and pushes you beyond the boundaries of your comfort zone.

Gathering new family memories
Studies have shown that taking your children away on holiday is far more beneficial to their development than wasting money on buying toys.

Many families spend heavily on toys for their kids each year, often to the detriment of doing other exciting activities together.

For example, an average of more than £500 a year per child is spent on toys in Great Britain – money that could be put to much better use.

Best-selling psychological author, Oliver James, believes that children would gain far more benefit from travelling away on holiday each year.

Do you have any idea what an extraordinary proportion of presents we give children aren’t actually wanted or valued?” he said.

The whole business of providing material commodities for kids – in ever more expensive forms as they get older – is entirely, 100 percent, about propping up the industry that profits from it."

On the other hand, family holidays are definitely valued by children, both in the moment and for long afterwards in their memory."

So, if you’re going to spend money on something, it’s pretty clear which option makes more sense.

Holiday with friends for happiness
Social-personality psychologist, Dr William Chopik, says that taking regular holidays with friends is one of the best ways to stay happy.

A study from Harvard University supports Chopik’s view, arguing that time spend with friends can improve health and happiness – and even increase longevity.

The research found that being with friends allows people to check in with each other, exchange ideas and offer social support to one another.

Maintaining social connections outside of the family circle enables people to gain a different perspective on life, further strengthening personal wellbeing.

Friendships are really important for people’s happiness,” said Chopik. “In general, they offer improvements on metrics like depression and anxiety."

"Friends serve as a source of support. You can share things with them that you may feel you can’t with partner or family member – particularly if you’re having trouble with said partner or family member."

Friendships boost happiness and morale as they are relationships of choice. You choose to hang out together because you enjoy each other’s company.

They are a way to derive all the benefits of being in a relationship with someone without the enormity of it.
