Spain reigns again this winter sun season; Egypt makes a comeback. Long-haul destinations named fastest growing hot spots.
Research conducted by the UK’s leading beach holiday specialist On the Beach, has revealed Spain to be the most popular hot spot for sun-seeking Brits this winter sun season, whilst Portugal’s ever-popular Algarve region is named the second most popular.
Booking data at On the Beach has revealed that Spain reigns again for Brits looking to escape the winter weather back home, with resorts across the Mainland and the islands tempting more Brits to its shores than any other destination.
The Canary Islands of Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, which enjoy temperatures of up to 23°C during winter, are the most popular Spanish destinations this winter, however booking data also reveals several summer sun favourites, such as the Costa Blanca and the Costa Del Sol, are growing in popularity over the winter sun season too.
Welcoming millions of Brits each year due to its fantastic all year-round climate and great value hotels and resorts, Portugal’s Algarve region jumps from third place last year to second this year and is named the second most popular destination for Brits this winter sun season.
Booking data also reveals that Egypt is once again a firm favourite amongst British holidaymakers, with the destination grabbing third place. Resorts such as Hurghada and Marsa Alam are proving to be the most popular hot spots, ahead of the much-anticipated return of Sharm El Sheikh next year.
Named the fourth most popular winter sun spot this year is the ever-popular Mediterranean island of Malta, with Morocco completing the top five list.

Long Haul Lovers
Research conducted by On the Beach has revealed a growing demand for long haul holidays this winter sun season, with Thailand named the online travel agent’s most popular far flung destination.
Booking data also reveals Mexico as a popular spot between November and March, grabbing second place, whist the island country of Cape Verde is named the third most popular long-haul holiday destination.
A favourite destination amongst British families for many years, the USA is the fourth most popular holiday spot, followed by South Africa, which enjoys average temperatures in January of 22o.
