4 in 10 Britons say that cost is the most important factor when choosing a holiday

The survey revealed that 4 in 10 Brits consider cost to be the most important factor when choosing a holiday. Over 36% of the respondents stated that cost is their top priority. This is clearly reflected in the number of holiday price comparison websites that are now on offer, as well as the range of travel companies that specifically specialise in last minute holidays and cheap deals.

The travel industry is fiercely competitive. Travel companies across the UK go head to head in an effort to provide potential consumers with something that their competitors are not.

In order to find out what the British public really wants when it comes to their next holiday, Holiday Gems has surveyed 1,000 people to ask ‘What’s the most important factor when you’re deciding where to go on holiday?’ The results were very revealing. The top five answers include cost, weather, destination, activities and accommodation.

The survey revealed that 4 in 10 Britons consider cost to be the most important factor when choosing a holiday. Over 36% of the respondents stated that cost is their top priority. This is clearly reflected in the number of holiday price comparison websites that are now on offer, as well as the range of travel companies that specifically specialise in last minute holidays and cheap deals.

The next priority for the British public is the weather. 2 in 10 Britons say that the weather is the main aspect they base their decision on. It is not surprising to hear that people want to take a holiday somewhere that is both hot and dry. 21% of Britons are looking for a holiday that provides this.

Surprisingly, only 1 in 10 people are basing their holiday on the destination.

In 2013, ABTA research suggested that city breaks are now on par with beach holidays. Over a twelve-month period 41% of the public were reported to have taken a city break, and 41% had taken a beach holiday. The research also revealed that the majority of consumers were intending to take a beach holiday in 2014.

Jason Edwards, Managing Director of Holiday Gems says “Our survey reveals 36.8% of respondents state that cost is their number one priority when looking for holidays. This in turn is our main offering to customers. We always endeavour to provide the most competitive holidays and flights in the UK. Weather and destination making the top three responses comes as no surprise to us. Our experienced and specialist travel personnel are on hand to offer you the best possible deal to suit your individual requirements.”

HolidayGems.co.uk used Google Consumer Surveys in order to get a broad cross section of responses. Respondents of all ages, genders and geographical locations provided answers.
