A new Frontier in Miami – Low-fare carrier launches new international flights at MIA

Frontier’s three weekly flights to Santo Domingo begin this Thursday, giving MIA more service to one of its busiest international markets.

MIAMI – On December 15, low-fare carrier Frontier Airlines announced that it will enter new territory from Miami International Airport in 2021 with service to six additional routes, including its first flights from Miami to four international destinations and two new domestic cities.

The new routes – Cancun, Mexico; Guatemala City, Guatemala; San Salvador, El Salvador; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Ontario, California; and Orlando, Florida – will expand Frontier’s route network at MIA to a total of 27 destinations.

“I’m thrilled that Frontier will be expanding its service at MIA with six additional destinations and a total of 25 more weekly flights,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “With the investment that airlines like Frontier are making in Miami-Dade County, our tourism industry and economy will continue to rebound and recover from the pandemic.”

Frontier’s three weekly flights to Santo Domingo begin this Thursday, giving MIA more service to one of its busiest international markets. Daily service to Orlando begins in February, providing passengers another travel option between the two popular Florida destinations. Miami-Cancun service begins in March with four weekly flights, followed in April by the launch of three weekly flights to Guatemala City, four weekly flights to San Salvador, and four weekly flights to Ontario. Frontier’s Ontario service will be an entirely new route for MIA.

“Congratulations to Frontier on launching these first-ever international flights from Miami, and for increasing its network at MIA to a total 27 cities,” said Lester Sola, MIA Director and CEO. “Domestically, Ontario is a completely new route for MIA, and its daily service to Orlando provides passengers another travel option between our two popular destinations. After exactly six years at MIA this month, and we are pleased to see that Frontier’s commitment to the Miami market is stronger than ever.”

Daniel Shurz, senior vice president of commercial, Frontier Airlines, said: “Frontier’s growth in Miami has been remarkable and these new routes complement our already broad range of destinations. Like all Frontier flights, this new service will adhere to our comprehensive health strategy, including required temperature screenings, mask wearing and enhanced cleaning on every aircraft.”

Frontier requires all customers and crew members wear a face covering throughout their travel journey. Plus, anyone flying with Frontier must complete a health acknowledgement prior to flying confirming that:

  • Neither they nor anyone in their household has exhibited Covid-19 related symptoms in the last 14 days
  • They will wash their hands/sanitize before boarding the flight
  • They understand and acknowledge the airline’s face covering policy and pre-boarding temperature screening policies

During flight, main cabin air is a mix of fresh air drawn from outside and air that has been passed through an air filtration system that features HEPA filters capable of capturing respiratory virus particles at more than 99.9% efficiency – similar to those used in hospital environments. Frontier’s modern all-Airbus fleet is among the youngest in the world – all aircraft currently in operation are less than four years old.
