A new German carrier comes to Pulkovo Airport

The service will commence from the 26th of April and will be operated twice-weekly. On Thursdays and Sundays Germania’s aircraft will depart from Dresden to St. Petersburg, with the return flights going back on Fridays and Mondays.

In the summer season of 2018, Germania will launch direct scheduled flights from Pulkovo St. Petersburg Airport to Dresden (Germany). The new route was announced at the airline’s press-conference in Dresden on October 20th, 2017.

The service will commence from the 26th of April and will be operated twice-weekly. On Thursdays and Sundays Germania’s aircraft will depart from Dresden to St. Petersburg, with the return flights going back on Fridays and Mondays.

Dresden is on the strategic routes list in the Support program for new destinations of Pulkovo Airport. The city will become the sixth point of Germany in the airport’s route network. Direct scheduled flights from St. Petersburg are already operated to the German cities of Berlin (Schonefeld and Tegel airports by Rossiya Airlines and S7 Airlines respectively), Hamburg and Dusseldorf (by Rossiya Airlines), Munich (by Rossiya Airlines and Lufthansa), and Frankfurt am Main (by Lufthansa).

Germany remains one of the most demanded international destinations from Pulkovo airport. In the first 9 months of 2017, 563,900 passengers traveled between St. Petersburg and Germany with the direct flights, which represent a 20% increase compared with the same period in 2016.

Germania is a German airline founded in 1986 and based in Berlin. The carrier’s fleet consists of 14 Airbus A319, 5 Airbus A321 and 10 Boeing B737-700 aircraft. The airline’s route network includes more than 55 destinations in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

Pulkovo airport ranks fourth in Russia in terms of passenger traffic. For January-September of 2017, St. Petersburg Airport welcomed 12.6 million passengers, a number 24% higher than in the same period of 2016. The airport’s management company “Northern Capital Gateway” continually develops the route network of St. Petersburg airport. For this purpose, there are two functioning programs for the airlines at Pulkovo. The first is the Incentive program that provides bonuses on airport taxes for new comers, new destinations, and for frequency increase of flights from/to Pulkovo airport, etc. The second is the Support program for new destinations, elaborated by NCG jointly with the Government of Saint Petersburg. It offers discounts on airport charges for launching services to destinations predetermined in the airport’s strategic routes list. From the beginning of 2017, 11 new routes were launched and 5 new carriers commenced their services at Pulkovo St. Petersburg Airport.
