Aena is among the leading companies in its commitment to fighting climate change

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) has once again awarded it an A score for action on climate change, the project’s highest rating. Aena is among only 17 Spanish companies to achieve this recognition.

Aena, in its efforts to meet its commitments to decarbonisation and environmental protection, has once again achieved the highest rating awarded by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in the area of climate change, for which purpose the actions carried out in this area have been assessed.

Over the past months, Aena has continued to work on the objectives of its Sustainability Strategy, which includes the company’s Climate Action Plan, thus promoting a more sustainable aviation model with the aim of furthering the decarbonisation of its activity and its value chain.

In this line, through a specific annual questionnaire on climate change completed by companies and major cities around the world, CDP collects and assesses information on strategy, emission reduction measures, and climate risks and opportunities. Among these companies is Aena, which has been recognised for its efforts in the area with an A rating, the highest score awarded by the organisation, and above the European and sector average. CDP establishes a rating ranging from a maximum score of A to a minimum of D, which is comparable between companies in the same region or sector. This year, of the 15,000 companies scored, only 283 achieved the maximum
rating, of which only 17 are Spanish, including Aena.

CDP is an international, not-for-profit organisation that promotes sustainable economies. It aims to disclose environmental information from leading companies to inform investment decisions that incorporate climate change as a strategic factor.

Goal: zero emissions
Aena’s participation in the CDP report and in other initiatives, such as the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme — accreditation that recognises the efforts of airports to manage and reduce their CO2 emissions – reaffirms both the company’s firm commitment to the fight against climate change and transparency in the relationship with its environment in order to share quality information with all its stakeholders.

Thus, Aena has a Climate Action Plan in place based on its Sustainability Strategy, which includes actions to mitigate the effects of climate change, as well as emission reduction targets. In this regard, Aena’s objective is to be carbon neutral by 2026 as an interim step to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040 in all airports in the network.
