Governor of the Red Sea governorate Saad Abu Reida yesterday said that tourist numbers from Hurghada and Marsa Alam airports are close to normal, pointing out the Saturday attacks in Sharm el-Sheikh had minimal impact upon the area.

Reida highlighted that there had only been a three percent level of cancellations in the governorate hotels.

By the same token, there had not been any change in the schedules of tourists leaving the governorates following the attacks.

He said that tourists are found in large numbers on the streets and in the markets of the governorate.

Up to 45 sea voyages carrying 1100 tourists of various nationalities to the Gifton Island Mahmiya (a nature reserve) left this morning, he said.

The Gifton Island is a tourist snorkeling destination with a paradise beach containing corals in the sea, he added.

According to Reida, a further 550 tourists were carried on 18 cruises to other islands in the south of the governorate.
