Air Croatia joins Budapest Airport and announces link to Zagreb

Welcoming the start-up carrier’s inaugural flight on 2 April, the Hungarian gateway will establish its first direct connection to neighbouring Croatia.

Budapest Airport adds yet another new city and country to its route network having announced the commencement of a thrice-weekly service to Zagreb with Air Croatia.

Welcoming the start-up carrier’s inaugural flight on 2 April, the Hungarian gateway will establish its first direct connection to neighbouring Croatia. Operated by 48-seat ATR42, wet-leased from Denim Air ACMI, the 307-kilometre city pair faces no direct competition.

As the capital city, Zagreb is also the largest city of the Republic of Croatia, the hub of business, culture and sporting activities, making it an ideal destination for leisure and business passengers alike. With research showing significant volumes of passengers already travelling between Hungary and Croatia, but having to transfer via other airports, this new service will now give passengers the convenience of a direct route.

Jost Lammers, CEO, Budapest Airport comments on the new service: “This is tremendous news and another clear indication of our airport’s growing reputation, with airlines recognising the business and leisure opportunities available. We know demand is strong for this service to Zagreb and look forward to welcoming Air Croatia as a new airline partner.”

Now boasting six new airlines and 13 new routes to begin in 2015, Budapest Airport continues to experience exceptional growth. Recording its highest-ever monthly growth rate at 13% in February, the new link to Croatia’s capital city will further enhance the airport’s significant development and Hungary’s rapidly expanding tourism.
