Airline KLM Royal Dutch Airlines embraces onboard duty free by entering multi-year renewal with GuestLogix

Having supported secure onboard transactions for the Netherland’s flagship carrier since 2009, KLM will continue to leverage GuestLogix’ PCI-compliant handheld POS devices to support onboard duty-free retailing on its flights which now serve 108 destinations throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Oceania, Asia and the Americas.

Today’s airlines are constantly looking for new and better ways to generate revenue while competition forces them to drive down ticket fares. Airlines have shifted their thinking away from profitable ticket prices and towards new ancillary services and products that can subsidize lower fares. Ancillary revenue is projected to reach $59.2 billion in 2015 with $39.7 billion coming from a-la carte activity such as in-flight duty free sales.

It is with this understanding that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has announced a multi-year renewal agreement for fleet-wide use of GuestLogix retailing technology.

Highlights from the agreement include:

  • GuestLogix’ Global Payment Gateway will facilitate the airline’s enhanced revenue protection.
  • KLM will be able to leverage GuestLogix’ Travel RPM (Retail Performance Management) consulting services to optimize and fine-tune its revenue potential.
  • GuestLogix Ancillary Insights business intelligence platform will be deployed to enable KLM’s advanced reporting and analysis.
  • GuestLogix’ end-to-end retail solutions, including its Transaction Processing Engine® (TPE), will support the airline’s omni-channel retailing initiatives and deliver its strategic goals.
  • KLM will have the option to transition to the company’s smartphone and tablet POS solutions in the future, enabling crew to use a single device to access crew information and manage onboard retailing.

GuestLogix is backed by more than 95 payment and operational certifications, making it the most secure and reliable technology provider in the industry.
