Airport technology to tackle the capacity crunch

Airport Solutions Dubai 2018.

Airport Solutions Dubai to take place during Dubai Airshow.

Airport Solutions Dubai, taking place 19-20 November within the Dubai Airshow offers a unique opportunity for the airport community to explore technology advancements to meet future capacity demands. As passenger numbers continue to rise globally, airports are seeking innovative solutions to meet this increasing demand while simultaneously improving the traveller’s experience.

Regionally, the Middle East is showing 4.4% CAGR in passenger numbers and Africa is experiencing 5.01% growth. By 2037, the total Middle Eastern market size should be 501 million passenger movements annually. Furthermore Dubai, as the world’s busiest airport for international traffic, is likely to remain in this position due to its strategic location between Europe and Asia.

Modern travellers are expecting a fast, intuitive and self-serviced airport experience. As services such as online check-in on smart phones and electronic boarding passes become the norm, ideas such as self-service boarding and biometric identification replacing passports are becoming part of the conversation. Fingerprint and retinal scanners, already in use at some immigration ports for passport control, could in the future provide all in one services. These kinds of technological advancements will not only boost passenger experience but will crucially speed up throughput.

The Airport Solutions Dubai conference will address the global challenge facing all airports: how to increase passenger numbers with limited or finite capacity. Speakers from some of world’s top airports including Heathrow Airport, Amsterdam Schipol and Dubai Airports will focus on real-life case studies for maximum passenger processing and terminal flow in both new and existing infrastructure. In addition, COOs from London City Airport, Airports Company South Africa, and DACO Dammam Airports Company will join a panel discussion to consider when and how to increase airport capacity and how to keep up with airline growth and demand.

“Capacity planning is a top priority for the global airport industry, with heavily increasing passenger numbers, airports are carefully looking at how they can future-proof their infrastructure to meet the forecasted demand,” says Rachel Sturgess, Portfolio Director at event organisers Tarsus F&E LLC Middle East. She continues, “With big investments being made in security and passenger processing technology, we are looking forward to welcoming some of the most technologically advanced airports at Airport Solutions Dubai to discuss these critical issues.”

The conference will include a dedicated exhibition pavilion throughout the five days of the Dubai Airshow, where airport technology exhibitors will be displaying and demonstrating their latest innovations in the industry.
