Community leaders join Alaska Airlines for the groundbreaking of a new building near Sea-Tac International Airport.
Construction of a campus “Hub” will connect office and technology workers with employees running the airline at the airport and in the sky.
SEATTLE – Alaska Airlines unveiled plans to construct a 128,000-square-foot building near Sea-Tac Airport that will provide a modern and efficient office space for its growing workforce. The new building will be across the street from Alaska's Corporate Headquarters and adjacent to its Flight Training Center, providing office space for approximately 600 Alaska employees in technology, System Operations Control and other key functions.
"Alaska Airlines has grown significantly over the past several years. In the last five years alone, the number of Alaska Air Group employees has grown by 76 percent. As we continue to grow our workforce in our hometown, this new facility will bring together frontline employees and management and improve collaboration," said Alaska Airlines CEO Brad Tilden. "The new building, which we are calling the 'Hub,' will be a warm, welcoming facility for all Alaska employees and guests."
The Hub will be constructed on a 6.8-acre site that Alaska Airlines acquired in January and where demolition is already underway. Building construction will begin by July 2018 and is expected to be completed by early 2020. Redevelopment will also include a new parking garage, surface parking, landscaped paths and other site improvements.

Designed by the architecture firm NBBJ, the Hub will include centralized space dedicated to a number of functions that support our frontline employees. In addition to serving as a recruiting center, the Hub will be home to the uniform fit center, Company Store and provide a functional and efficient workspace for the operations centers for Alaska and Horizon as well as the e-commerce team and some ITS employees.

"We are encouraged by Alaska Airlines' clear vision and commitment to transform this site into a modern and pedestrian-friendly environment for its expanding workforce."
Redevelopment plans include creating a campus environment that allows Alaska employees and guests to walk safely and conveniently between buildings. In the initial phase, Alaska will also construct a privately funded, publicly accessible pedestrian crossing of International Boulevard marked with traffic signals to enhance pedestrian safety.
Alaska Air Group names Max Tidwell Vice President of Safety and Security
Alaska Air Group's board of directors named Max Tidwell vice president of safety and security for Alaska Air Group and Alaska Airlines. Tidwell will oversee all safety functions, develop and execute long-term safety and security strategies and continue to advance Alaska Airlines' world class safety culture.
"The safety of our guests and our people is our number one priority and Max is extremely well suited to continue to deepen our safety culture," said Brad Tilden. "He has three decades of aviation experience, including leading key functions within the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He also continues to serve our country as a member of the Air National Guard."
Tidwell was most recently the FAA division manager for Air Carrier Safety Assurance, with offices in Atlanta and Miami. He has held multiple roles at the FAA over his 22-year career, including as manager for Seattle, where he worked with Alaska Airlines. He graduated from Southern Illinois University with a bachelor's in aviation management.
He is a 30-year veteran of the Air Force and currently serves as command chief for the Washington Air National Guard, providing mission-ready personnel and equipment for a wide array of Department of Defense (DoD) missions.
Tidwell succeeds Tom Nunn who will continue to serve as Alaska Airlines vice president of safety until his retirement in June 2018, capping a 10-year career with the airline. Under Nunn's lead, Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air achieved FAA acceptance of their Safety Management System (SMS), a significant milestone that integrates and embeds safety throughout the culture and business processes of each airline.
