Amadeus continues strong performance results in Japan throughout 2006, recording double the number of GDS bookings compared to 2003 as the company stated. With 30% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for the past 3 years, Amadeus Japan is the largest global technology provider in the market for GDS bookings, and expects this trend to continue in 2007.

2006 was a year of outstanding results for Amadeus in both Japan and the Asia Pacific region as a whole. We have maintained our leadership across the traditional lines of business, and are the technology provider of choice for Star Alliance – a very significant partnership. Amadeus is constantly pioneering new technologies to support the travel industry, such as corporate booking tools which are creating vigorous demand amongst corporations today, said David Brett, President of Amadeus Asia Pacific.

Looking ahead we can expect more win-win partnerships between Amadeus and the Japanese travel community, who value the potential of technology and expect the highest standards in products and service. Our mission is to innovate and deliver world class technology solutions and consultancy services, a trait that distinguishes Amadeus from the rest.

Amadeus established its presence in Japan in 1998, and celebrates its 10th anniversary next year. During this time it has emerged as a leading technology provider across many areas, including e-ticketing. As of June 2007, all Amadeus e-ticket enabled travel agents in Japan have set their systems to automatically issue electronic tickets by default, in line with the International Air Transport Authority`s guidelines for achieving 100 percent paperless travel.

Aside from the airline industry Amadeus has partnerships with 19 major cruise lines in Japan.

Miho Ohtake, General Manager of Amadeus Japan, added: Our success in Japan stems from leveraging Amadeus’ global reputation and expertise but adapting our approach to suit the local market – a ‘think global, act local’ philosophy. With our strong focus on customer service, we have demonstrated our leadership as not only a truly global GDS but also as a full-service technology partner. In 2006, we succeeded in reaching out to new in-house travel agencies that specialise in business travel management as well as growing our relationships with existing partners who recognise the value that Amadeus can add to their business.
