Among the nine projects, about 180 kilometers` railways were scheduled for Guangzhou, connecting downtown Guangzhou with the outer districts, said Chen Shaohong, vice general manager of the Guangzhou Railway Group.

New rail routes from downtown Guangzhou to the outskirts, including routes to Xintang area and Huadu District, would be available on the completion of the New Guangzhou Railway Station, which would be the new transport hub in south China, said Chen.

When the new railway station is completed in 2008, it will have a greater handling capability. Trains linking Beijing and Guangzhou will be extended to Huadu.
