Beijing deepen tourism cooperation with Latvia and Russia

Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development (BMCTD) sent a delegation to  Riga, capital of Latvia, recently and conducted extensive exchanges on deepening bilateral tourism cooperation. Also, Beijing Tourism Commission held a promotion event and Beijing Tourism Photo Exhibition in St. Petersburg, as well as a promotional event at the Red Square (Central Revolution Square) in Moscow.

Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development (BMCTD) sent a delegation to  Riga, capital of Latvia, recently and conducted extensive exchanges on deepening bilateral tourism cooperation. Cao Pengcheng, Deputy Director with BMCTD, held frank and friendly exchanges with Aigars Smiltans, senior official of Live Riga. The two sides believed that as both Beijing and Riga are capital cities of their respective countries and members of the World Tourism Cities Federation, it is the high time for them to strengthen cooperation between the two cities' tourism authorities and tourism enterprises. Smiltans was very pleased to learn that China Youth Travel Service (CYTS), Beijing Tourism Group (BTG) and Honglu Spring are competitive tourism enterprises in China, and expressed support to facilitate flights and offer enhanced convenient services for Chinese tourists.

A meeting was also held on the same day. It was attended by representatives of tourism enterprises of the two cities. CYTS, BTG and Honglu Spring introduced their products to their Riga counterparts and expressed willingness to strengthen mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation. Local tourism enterprises consulted their Beijing counterparts over new Beijing tourism products, ice and snow tourism, 144 hours transit visa-free policy, Beijing urban governance and other issues.

One local tourism enterprise representative, Helena, said that she is very fond of Beijing and loves Beijing culture, and that she has been using her blog to keep her updated of the latest information of Beijing tourism. She suggested that tourism enterprises could jointly set up tourism communication platforms such as Weibo and WeChat.

Beijing promotes local tourism in St. Petersburg and Moscow
On July 12 morning local time, Beijing Tourism Commission held a promotion event and Beijing Tourism Photo Exhibition in Russia's beautiful northern city of St. Petersburg with the theme of "Follow the Silk Road to discover the new Beijing".

This event was attended by Deputy Director of Beijing Tourism Commission Cao Pengcheng, officials with St. Petersburg tourism authorities, head of Sino-Russia Tourism Promotion Committee and Deputy Consul General of the Chinese Consulate in St. Petersburg Zhang Shuyou. About one hundred people including St. Petersburg local travel agents and CCTV, Xinhua and other related media participated in the promotional activities.

Cao pointed out that as the capital of China, Beijing is a tourist destination longed for across the world. Beijing is both one ancient capital with over thousands of years of history and one open and inclusive cosmopolitan city. Cao welcomed more Russian friends to Beijing to experience the city's international style, ancient charm, oriental presence and fashionable feel.

St. Petersburg tourism officials and Zhang Shuyou echoed Cao's remarks and pointed out that China's capital Beijing boasts deep historical and cultural background, ever-changing urban landscape, unique tourism resources, and hospitable local people and they are willing to play greater roles in deepening tourism exchanges and cooperation between the two places.

During the promotional activities, Beijing Tourism Commission introduced rich local tourism resources while Hainan Airlines and other tourism enterprises introduced related tourism products. The peak of the activities reached when participants tried their luck at free hotels in Beijing sponsored by CYTS and free flight tickets to St. Petersburg offered by Hainan Airlines. Then Cao and other guests together launched the Beijing Tourism Photo Exhibition, which showcases the historical, cultural, modern and fashionable sides of Beijing. The 60 selected photos display Beijing's unique tourism resources, beautiful city scenery and local people's lives, attracting visitors to appreciate with interest.

Also, on the morning of July 17 local time, Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development (BMCTD) held one promotional event at the Red Square (Central Revolution Square) in Moscow, capital of Russia. The theme is to "Follow the Silk Road and discover the new Beijing". Cao Pengcheng, deputy director with the BMCTD, Zhang Zhonghua, cultural counselor of Chinese Embassy in Russia, Zhao Hongqing, director of the office in Moscow of China National Tourism Administration, Tihnenko, director of Moscow Tourism Bureau and other guests attended the event and delivered speeches.

Cao Pengcheng, deputy director of BMCTD, said that strengthening cooperation between Beijing and Moscow is one important measure to implement the Belt and Road Initiative. Beijing, as the capital of China, is a tourist destination of global appeal. Beijing is both one ancient capital with over thousands of years of history and one open and inclusive cosmopolitan city. Cao welcomed more Russian friends to Beijing to experience the city's international style, ancient charm, oriental presence and fashionable feel.

Tihnenko, head of Moscow Tourism Bureau, said Moscow and Beijing are capitals of two great countries and brother cities. He expected the two sides to seize the opportunities of the Belt and Road Initiative to deepen bilateral tourism cooperation to promote people-to-people exchanges.

China's capital Beijing boasts deep historical and cultural background, ever-changing urban landscape and unique tourism resources, which are of great appeal to the rest of the world. At present, Beijing is committed to building a world-class harmonious livable capital, developing the city's subsidiary administrative center and preparing for the 2022 Winter Olympics. Thus urban traffic is becoming more convenient, urban management more efficient, urban service more sophisticated. Beijing welcomes Russian friends to travel to Beijing for sightseeing and leisure.
