Budapest joins capital connection elite

After the successful launch of long-haul flights to New York JFK and Chicago O’Hare last month, as well as a six times weekly link to Krakow back in April, LOT’s new route will see another 1,272 weekly one-way seats to Budapest’s London market.

As Budapest Airport continues to strengthen its already solid route map, with a storming average +15% monthly growth so far this year, the Hungarian gateway is turning its focus onto its network expansion for 2019. Maintaining its progression, the capital city airport has announced it will be connected to all London airports as of next February with its latest new link – a 12 times weekly, 106-seat E190 service to London City with LOT Polish Airlines.

Commenting on becoming only the fourth European capital city to have direct access to all six London airports – the other three being Amsterdam, Dublin and Prague – Jost Lammers, CEO, Budapest Airport says: “I am extremely happy to have another innovative product introduced into the Hungarian aviation market by our friends from LOT Polish Airlines. The start of operations between Budapest and London City marks another important milestone in our joint efforts to present high quality service to passengers at both ends of this destination.”

After the successful launch of long-haul flights to New York JFK and Chicago O’Hare last month, as well as a six times weekly link to Krakow back in April, LOT’s new route will see another 1,272 weekly one-way seats to Budapest’s London market. With over 500,000 one-way seats, London is already Budapest’s number one city market and LOT’s latest introduction to the gateway’s route map serves to further fortify the UK’s position as its largest country market of 49 served this summer.

Formerly New York’s largest unserved market in Europe, the Budapest route has sizeable potential, as data indicates around 110,000 passengers flew indirectly between the two cities last year. After New York, Chicago is the number two sought-after destination in US from the Hungarian capital city, with a market potential of more than 42,000 annual passengers between the two cities.

“Being one of the most dynamically growing airlines in Europe we are very proud that, with the strong support from local partners, we are able to fast-track our development in Hungary. We have opened a new chapter in our history – after the launch of the flights to New York JFK, Chicago O’Hare and Krakow, the two daily flights to London City are the latest addition,” says Rafal Milczarski, CEO, LOT Polish Airlines. “The annual passenger traffic on the Budapest-London route is approximately 1.5 million and London City Airport is the most conveniently located airport for those passengers who want to reach London’s business district in a short and convenient way. I am certain that Hungarian passengers will appreciate the new connection thanks to the elevated quality of service,” adds Milczarski.
