BVI Tourist Board sponsors AT&T National Golf Tournament

The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board North America Office will be the presenting destination sponsor of the AT&T National golf tournament, hosted by Tiger Woods, at Congressional Country Club in Washington, D.C. through July 5, 2009, to showcase and encourage visitors to discover and experience the attributes of the BVI.

The mid-Atlantic market – which touches nearly 20 million people in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia – is one of the BVI’s top feeder markets. With the tournament’s timing set for the 4th of July weekend (during which Americans observe and celebrate the birth of the United States of America) and location near the capital of the U.S., the event is well-attended by an audience of political dignitaries, business and travel industry leaders, as well as affluent consumers. With tournament host Tiger Woods returning to the AT&T National (Mr. Woods did not play in the tournament in 2008 because of knee surgery) more than 300,000 people are expected to attend the event.

The BVI Tourist Board North American Marketing office will be engaging tournament attendees one-on-one in a 10- by 20-foot hospitality lounge showcasing the British Virgin Islands experience. In addition, the BVI Tourist Board team will be actively selling summer offers from all hotel and villa properties who are participating in the “Summer of Savings” campaign; more than 150 top travel agents in the mid-Atlantic market have been invited to the tournament to learn more about the range of excellent summer offers from BVI hotels and villas. Finally, there will be a sweepstakes drawing for a five-night stay in the BVI, and all sweepstakes entrants will have the chance to subscribe to the BVI’s new monthly email newsletter.
