Carnival to debut new class of superliner with 7 more vessels on order

The 86,000-ton Carnival Spirit, the 16th vessel in Carnival<.> Cruise Lines` fleet, will usher in a new era in cruising when it enters service in April 2001.



Currently under construction in Helsinki, Finland, the 2,124-passenger ship will begin a new class of vessel for the line and offer a sleek new design and a host of new and expanded facilities, including a wedding chapel, a large conference centre, a supper club bordering the ship`s massive winged funnel and a spectacular outdoor wrap-around promenade. It will also be one of the most spacious cruise ships in the contemporary market with the highest percentage of ocean view and balconied staterooms of any SuperLiner.



Exemplifying Carnival`s commitment to the environment, the Carnival Spirit will also feature six cleaner running diesel-electric engines, as well as a new waste water and food waste processing systems. Additionally, the ship will utilize only environmentally friendly refrigerants, paints and other products. Like other Carnival vessels, the ship will adhere to an extensive waste management plan in which materials are recycled, incinerated or offloaded for disposal on land.



Included in the Carnival Spirit`s inaugural season is a series of alternating eight-day exotic southern and western Caribbean cruises will visit St. Maarten, Barbados and Martinique, while eight-day western Caribbean voyages include stops at Belize City, Belize; Limon, Costa Rica; and Colon, Panama(optional Panama Canal and Gatun Lake excursions available). The programme ends with an eight-day southern Caribbean cruise departing March 27, 2002.



Because of the ship`s innovative eight-day schedule – the first in the cruise industry – departure days will vary from week to week, providing guests an opportunity to visit islands when fewer ships are in port.



Carnival Cruise Lines has a further three Spirit Class vessels on order, the Carnival Pride (late 2001), the Carnival Legend (summer 2002), the Carnival Miracle (Spring 2004). There are also three 101,000 ton Conquest Class vessels on order – the Carnival Conquest (2002), the Carnival Glory (2003) and the Carnival Valor (2004).
