The Caribbean Tourism Development Company (CTDC) has partnered with the United States Postal Service (USPS) to make it easier for consumers to apply for their passports. During the CTDC’s Caribbean Fair cultural extravaganza, Tuesday, June 12 at South Street Seaport Piers 16 and 17, USPS representatives will be present to help Fair attendees who are U.S. citizens apply for their passports. The Caribbean Fair is one of many events taking place during CTDC’s annual Caribbean Week 2007 in New York City which brings numerous Caribbean festivities to New York.

According to the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), which went into effect in January 2007, all U.S. citizens are required to present a passport when returning to the U.S. by air from the Caribbean, Mexico, Bermuda, South and Central America and Canada. In 2008 travelers arriving by cruise ship or land crossing will also be required to have a passport. CTO member countries – Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands – are exempt from this U.S. government requirement.

“Since we are bringing the flair, flavor and warmth of the Caribbean to New York, we believe it is important to assist consumers interested in visiting the Caribbean by making it even more convenient for them to obtain their passports,” said Hugh Riley, one of the event’s main organizers.

Persons wishing to apply for a U.S. passport at the Caribbean Fair on June 12 will need the following:

  • Completed passport application (not signed)

  • Evidence of U.S. citizenship (original documents)

  • Current Photo Identification (valid driver’s license)

  • Passport fees and acceptance fees are paid separately. They can be paid by check, or postal money order (United States Postal money orders will not be available for purchase at this event).
