Secretary of Mexico<.>`s Ministry of Tourism, Leticia Navarro, recently confirmed the country`s confidence in the strength of the tourism industry even in the wake of a global sector downturn in recent weeks.

Although initially following the September 11th attacks in the US there was a decline in hotel occupancy, numbers have begun to pick up in recent weeks. The Ministry of Tourism reports a 41.56 percent occupancy rate for the week of September 24th, down only 9.48 points from the same time last year.

The Mexican government have renewed focus on promotion aimed at bolstering travel to this country during the upcoming winter season, and the Mexico Tourism Board, created in 2000 to promote tourism, has increased its budget by 35 percent.
