Visiting Brazil is now a global trend

The Brazilian Tourism Institute (Embratur) is participating in the World Travel Market (WTM) trade show in London this week. At the Brazilian booth, not only can visitors do business with professionals from all over the world, but they also can learn about the country’s cultural diversity and great variety of destinations.

According to Embratur president Mario Moyses, the current positive economic climate in the country helps Brazil preparing for an increase in the number of foreign tourists from 5 million today to 8 million in 2014.
On this visit to the UK, he has held meetings with tourism entrepreneurs to discuss with them practical actions that can be taken to promote Brazil.

This morning event organizers have invited journalists to a presentation of the results of a survey conducted with 1,257 senior industry executives. According to that research, 47% of the global tourism industry believes that emerging markets – including Brazil, Russia, India and China – present great opportunities for investment over the next five years.

The survey found that 28% of respondents consider countries in economic expansion as extremely favourable markets for the tourism industry. The results were presented by BBC’s business journalist Aaron Heslehurst. According to the analysis, 55% of executives said they had been affected positively in their business dealings with emerging economies, while only 9.2% reported negative consequences.

The study aims to put world tourism in context for international journalists, stated that the recent agreement between Brazil and the European Union is opening up the country as a tourist destination. According to the research group Euromonitor International, the partnership will generate an increase of 335,000 travelers to Brazil in the first year alone.

Data from the same group shows that airlines will sell 21% more tickets to Brazil in 2010, whereas sales for travel to Western Europe will grow by 3%. "WTM is a trade show that presents market trends and thus functions as a compass to guide our annual planning to promote the country. That is why being at this event is important toward positioning Brazil as an international tourist destination," Marcelo Pedroso, Embratur’s director of products and destinations, said in conclusion.
