Eastern Europe experiencing biggest growth in demand from holidaymakers

In the first three months of 2014, Romania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Albania and Estonia have all seen significant increases in demand from holidaymakers.

More holidaymakers than ever are heading to Eastern Europe as their destination of choice, according to the latest statistics released by the UK’s leading vacation rentals site, holidaylettings.co.uk.

The list of top 10 European countries experiencing the biggest growth in demand from holidaymakers this year includes a staggering seven Eastern European countries. In the first three months of 2014, Romania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Albania and Estonia have all seen significant increases in demand from holidaymakers.

Other Eastern European countries such as Latvia and Slovenia have also seen a large increase, falling just outside the top 10 but ranking higher than traditional favourites such as Spain and the Canary Islands.

Kate Stinchcombe-Gillies, spokesperson for Holiday Lettings, said that demand could grow further as accessibility of flights to these areas continues to improve and holidaymakers become more aware of what there is to offer in these less traditional holiday locations. The increased demand also means that those who own homes in these areas could create significant income from letting out their home as a holiday let.

Many Eastern European countries offer stunning countryside as well as beautiful, historic cities that are increasingly cosmopolitan. More and more holidaymakers are taking the opportunity to travel somewhere slightly off the beaten track – and choosing to stay in a self-catering property allows them to really live like a local and enjoy that home from home experience.”

The spike in demand also means that holiday home owners could see their property in high demand – year round appeal suggests that homes in these countries could have great investment potential as a holiday let.”

The top 10 areas which experienced the largest increase in enquiries are:

Netherlands
Germany
Romania
Sweden
Poland
Czech Republic
Slovakia
Albania
Estonia
Ukraine
