Eco-Tourism project launches crowdfunding campaign to expand presence around world

Having helped communities in Fiji, Sierra Leone and Italy with its unique community-led responsible tourism projects, Tribewanted now plans to expand its presence to 10 locations around the world with the help of a crowdfunding for equity campaign.

Tribewanted
, the global eco-tourism project, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to enable its expansion to more communities around the World; having already enjoyed success in Fiji, Sierra Leone and Italy.

Having helped communities in Fiji, Sierra Leone and Italy with its unique community-led responsible tourism projects, Tribewanted now plans to expand its presence to 10 locations around the world with the help of a crowdfunding for equity campaign; partnering with the very best eco-tourism projects around the world and scaling its innovative membership model.

The previous subject of BBC documentary ‘Paradise or Bust’ and having attracted international coverage for its projects, Tribewanted has built a strong reputation amongst the tourism community for being innovative leaders in its particular area. Based around the idea of ‘eco-tourism’, or ‘ responsible tourism’ – the fastest growing sector of the travel industry – Tribewanted projects invite ‘tribe-members’ to come along for a holiday with a twist; living alongside the local team and community whilst learning about and participating in everyday projects. At the same time, Tribewanted aims to inspire its members and visitors to engage in these issues during their stay and when they return home.

So far the projects have been funded, built and operated completely by Tribewanted. Now the travel and tech start-up is looking to expand its reach to 10 ‘partner locations’ around the world, potentially including Mozambique, Laos, Nicaragua, the UK and Bali.

These independent Partner Locations have an urgent need for support in marketing, sales, web-presence, online booking facilities and funds for local projects; all of which Tribewanted will supply for an annual fee and booking commissions.

30% of all Tribewanted membership fees will go to community projects at the Partner Locations, which aim to significantly improve local inhabitants’ quality of life (health, education, conservation, enterprise, clean energy).

Through the crowdfunding platform crowdcube.com, Tribewanted is seeking an investment of £200,000 for 20% equity in Tribewanted Ltd and rewards that include stays at Tribewanted projects. Tribewanted will be investing these funds into its online product, team, developing its location partnerships and marketing the business.

Founder of Tribewanted.com, Ben Keene, said the following about the crowdfunding project: “Now is the right time for us to scale-up our business. Over the last few years we’ve seen a rising wave of innovative travel and tech businesses like Airbnb, Couchsurfing and Hipmunk. But, despite its growing popularity and importance, no-one has yet grabbed the eco and community tourism space decisively. After learning the ropes ourselves over the last few years, this is now what we’re aiming to do with this round of funding.”

“We want Tribewanted to become the place that brings together the very best eco-tourism and community experiences into one collection for our members and tourists looking for the most amazing and impactful experiences on earth. By partnering with select eco-tourism projects around the World, not only can we let tourists know the brilliant and unique types of holiday available to them, but we’ll also be helping these destinations market themselves and ultimately generate the income to help to build their own local communities.”
