Egypt to continue policy of incentivising seats on British flights

This is part of the Egyptian government’s aims to increase UK arrivals which were 905,000 in 2014 compared with 1.3 million five years ago. There was an 18 per cent increase between January and April compared to 2014’s figures, which will please Ramy who promised a big marketing campaign from last summer.

The African country will guarantee payment for half the seats from UK airports to Luxor, Sharm El Sheik and Hurghada this summer, with the subsidy maintained to Luxor in the winter months of 2015. Classic Holidays have released a statement regarding the news.

Khaled Ramy, who became tourism minister in March, said: “We will continue incentivising the flights till October 31 from all UK airports. Incentives to Sharm will stop from November 1, but subsidies to Luxor and the Nile valley will remain. We may increase [incentives] to the Nile. We are going to talk about how we can go back to the numbers of 2010.”

A spokesperson for Classic Holidays, who specialise in offering travel packages for British holidaymakers to Egypt, welcomed the confirmation from the Egyptian official. They said: “Egypt is a popular destination for a large number of British tourists due to its historical significance, amazing scenery and hot weather, with the latter perhaps cherished the most due to the British Isles’ unpredictability.

“Their continued policy of incentivising seats on UK flights means that people should take the opportunity to visit Luxor which has several stunning sights including the Valley of the Kings, a scene of royal burials which is subject to great fascination around the globe.”

Classic Holidays is part of The Co-operative Travel Group, providing holidays to Egypt at great prices.
